Mr. Norm
Another vote for the K40. I once had a cop tell me that he considered a radar detector as, "prima facie evidence of intent to speed". The cops never see the K40, neither do thieves. Jacob
V1, and stick it in your rear headrest so you dont see the uglyness (and cops cant see it either)SEE: http://www.theeshadow.net/carmod/volvos60r001.html
turboNM
I love my beltronics rx7, but just today I went into the slow lane to pass an old green astrovan who was doing like 85 in the passing lane... turned out he was a Vermont State Police detective, and pulled me over after pacing me for a bit, at almost 100, he claimed, though I didn't think I was doing more than 95. Just a warning from the officer not to "drive like an @ss," which obviously I was (I think speeding tickets were a little below his criminal interest, but he was kinda angry), but still a good reminder that radar detectors are very far from a complete solution, and neither is simply scanning for Crown Vics and Impalas. bus stop
adding a Radar detector doesn't mean you are free to speed. My take on RD is it give me an extra "eye" to see further.by the way....I really like my V1
Testman
After my wife got her first radar ticket on the way to work some few years ago, I did the research and bought the V1. Getting the latest car (C70 Convertible) gave me the opportunity to grab that one for my work vehicle and buy a new one for her. Bottom line - V1 is the only detector out there with active front- and rear-facing antennas and electronics. You are not depending on bounce from other surfaces to warn you of different threats. Combine that with the bogey counter and the arrows telling you which direction the threat is coming from and I think it trumps all the others. Whichever detector you purchase, I would highly recommend that you install it wired directly to the vehicle if possible, rather than depending on coil cords and such advertising to the locals hoodlums and constabulary that you are equipped with countermeasures. I would be happy to share my install experience with you in that regard...
andrew_the_fox
My cobra is pretty good. USed it on the parkway a couple times already, hasnt picked up any cops yet, but I haven't seen any either so I guess it's working. Not all of us can afford a K40
Gregg
The K40 RD850 is $300 or less. If you can't afford $300, then you shouldn't even be considering buying a radar detector.
TM850R
Where are you getting the k40 for 300? Nevermind...thats the little one. Not the hidden unit with the dash kit to have little red lights blink at you.
Gregg
Where are you getting the k40 for 300? Their site gives a quote of like 400 just for the main receiver. Nevermind all the other mounting pods and cables.right hereas I said in all my posts, I was talking about the RD850 model

Nathan
I've owned the Escort and the Passport, and when it died (I dropped it) I decided to try the Valentine 1. I think the V1 does give you an edge in the real world, if not in performance, then certainly on the amount of information you are receiving. More information (hopefully) leads to better decisions. I will never go back. Any radar detector is better than none, but for my money the V1 just works better, at least for me.
JHEIII874T5M
When I use one, it's a V1. I plan to get a laser jammer in the near future, though. Radar tickets you can always take to court and win, laser the judge usually looks at your record to determine your sentence... not a good thing for me.I say go for the V1, the arrows really do come in handy
