I have raced an sti... froma dig... no chance (he was modded though)

I am on par with a stock t5 slightly above.

On the highway, I still think it is a joke, I was not close to holding him. Not like he put 20 cars on me, but it was enough.

And SRT-4's :( they make me sad too heh

My friend in his 04 Honda Accord V6 5 speed auto was dead even with one on a highway one time. I was behind watching. It was when I had the Lexus, otherwise I wouldve been watching from my rear view. They were doing 50-120mph and it was over a quarter mile long distance. Then it merged to one lane and the STi guy chickened and my friend won.

Since the C70 HPT was in my life, I had the joy of beating 2 of them. Once was on the highway and I was stock, and I think he had exhaust cuz it was big but not too loud unless thats stock and ugly too...but yeah I pulled a few cars, especially once 3rd gear hit.

The second time was a few weeks ago the night I put my MBC in. 17 psi and I was just about matching his 300hp number. One tried to pass me on a straight away in a 45mph zone where it has the dotted lines to pass. I was doing 40 and he jumps me and I put literally 10 cars on him, maybe even more and I hit 75 and then chilled out. AWD slows you down at high speeds. Either that or having a really geuinely ugly car. :P

The STI chickened. Maybe the STi thought, hey this is STUPID to poking race INTO a poking merge lane. Maybe that was it?

A stock HPT DID beat it on the highway. Mine, and I have automatic too which is geared higher. I did not say I put 10 lengths on one stock. That was with the MBC, and the cam adjustment. When I was stock, I put maybe 3 or 4 on one doing over 100 on the highway, because after 3rd gear came I was out. I am telling you, their AWD makes their rotating mass very heavy and on the highway they got nothing. Also, I think their power split must suck. I think Volkswagen/Audi makes a better setup for highway usage. My friend has an R32 it is 240hp and awd. He was dead even with one on the highway as well and I argued with him that this couldnt be, even after he told me he knew the other driver and he was a good driver and all. Plus, when I had My 1997 ES300 before being modded with stock 200hp V style engine, I beat a WRX on the highway which is 227HP and flat 4 turbo. I used to go by numbers and specs to imagine who would win, but I learned that you have to experience it for your self and see what's up. The highway is a different world.

And yes, the STi guy was smart for backing down. My friend is a nut sometimes. Not that he was a chicken, but the point was, he could NOT get ahead and knew it because he was dead even.

Im sorry then, any STi driver you have rolled with on a highway can not drive. YOu have a 4 speed auto, YOU GET SLAUGHTERED! Over one hundred you put 3 to 4 (stock) uh huh. They cant drive.

I know you said you put 10 cars when not stock... still, I do not believe it. They can't drive or were not racing, I'm sorry to break it to you.

The Sti must've not left vacuum then.

You guys seem to think horsepower is everything. How come if I have the same horsepower of an STi (300), I still can not beat one from a dig? The answer is the STi has more traction. Which means there are other elements to being quick besides horse power.

On the highway, there is another element besides horsepower that you people seem to ignore. The STi has AWD. Any idiot knows that AWD hinders acceleration on the highway. I gave you 5 examples of an underpowered car beating an AWD subaru on the highway and it wasn't enough. Yeaaah they were either all bad drivers that cancelled out 60 hp, or they were 2.5 rs's with 80 less hp and still close by magic... so ponder this:

There is a formula somewhere in a car book I have. I forget it exactly, but they used a Ford Focus as an example. The stock flywheel was about 12 pounds or so heavier than a new lighweight one. With the formula, the reduction of that 12 pounds in rotating mass equals taking off 140 pounds or so from the vehicle's weight. I don't remember the exact numbers but I will get them soon. A friend of mine is borrowing the book to get pointers on building his 300ZX TT. Imagine the STi's extra rotating mass by having AWD vs FWD.

Some one else please chime in on this and help me out. I hate when every one thinks I am nuts and I know I am right.

Anthony.

17 PSI should be just short of 300hp. I estimate about 10hp for each psi above the stock 11. Just rounding out though. But I said IF I had the same power. You still didn't address the AWD situation though, so you can be done with the thread if you want.
