Turbo Upgrade -> More Intercooler Needed?

hrm... now that's an idea i'm saving for the nitrous setups. i'm not real happy with the intake angle for fuel pooling in the throttle body. but maybe now's the time. Griffin makes a small 24-18x6-8 inches i bet i could stick in there somewhere come april :)

USMC850T: you're right! thanks for the thought.

edit: can't spell, durn it

Heading down to xxtuning if your are up for a ride. If you are going with nos in the future that will cool things down a bit, wouldnt even do the intercooler spray just go with a 20 wet shot and that should = more than 10~20 in hp in the cooling aspect? For a total of 30~40 hp :o

i would love to meet up, but i have to work; we're tight up now can get a day off. i hear ya on the NOS, for now. i want a unconsumable resource like the intercooler. although by all means the NOS et al suggestions are good, and in the books for the future; once it's speced out to my satisfaction.

Griffin seems to make several sizes of intercoolers for the job.

Those top-to-bottom intercoolers from Road Race Engineering are very efficient in cooling air.

Here is the url link to the Euro Sport Tuning factory-style intercoolers that were mentioned earlier. The EST factory-style are listed for 850 and S70. I didn't see any listed for S80.

yeah that's the griffin, small and efficient. best choice i think.

ZuluKingCrowned: not sure what you mean? engineer the existing one and replace? interesting thought beyond near term immediate means i think. good thought! edit: ok this orning i understand it. at the moment i'm not sure how seperable the radiator is from the intercooler in the S80. adding a extra one in series still makes more sense to me.

prasamin: thanks for the info but i might be running against the clock on this one.

here is what i will be using on my 850 will be mounted where the battery sits. battery is heading to the trunk. along with a 2 gallon tank and pump. will be using a radiator from a 400ex 4 wheeler to cool the water. last i checked i have about $250 in the entire setup. aaaa10025.jpg

I think this one could be made to work pretty easy. and would definitely eliminate many of the bends and turns in the stock setup.

I will never understand why people will pay $1000+ for stuff that can be done much cheaper, with just a little imagination and creativity. I hate checkbook cars. It is not rocket science. I guess i have been around the turboford.org crowd for too long. Everybody over there is a cheap skate. HAHA but their stuff works.

And before i get flamed the above coolers are from ssautochrome and i have seen them used on quite a few cars with no problem whatsoever. And no i would not buy their headers or turbos, but there intercoolers are pretty Darn good for the price.

Chad.

here is a link to some 2.3 turbo ford setups. everything is pretty much built or made by the owners. no two are alike. and as you will see, some are pretty radical. and almost all are built with little or no money.

good link chad :) thanks! by the way: my battery is already in the trunk :)

i'm hoping to find some small open room in the front close the and charge air ducting, that won't be taken up by the tranny oil cooler (also planned)

That air/water intercooler isnt much bigger than the factory battery. will fit easily in its stock location without the factory air box. here are the measurements.

Core - 4.5" x 10.125" x 4.5 "

3" inlet

3" outlet

HEre are the measurements for the air/air above

3" inlet/outlet

5 bar pressure tested !

Core Length : 600MM

Core Height: 400MM

Core Thickness: 50MM"

Inlet Size: 3"

Outlet Size: 3"

End to End" Length: 855mm

Or you could just look through there store for intercoolers.

And again please dont flame me about ssautochrome stuff. the intercoolers are just fine.

chad, i was at the garage i can't see a simple way place to plumb an small intercooler. i do the move the horn trick and put on in from of the existing intercooler/radiator. but the plumb around to the front is ugly, and i don't think replacing the horns with an intercooler (in front of the existing intercooler) will have more than minor payback. it is cramped in there. i might put it coplaner to the ground with an air scoop under the electric fan. my best idea yet. love to hear a better one.

one thing is for sure the P2 suspension/chassis is a lot more complicated than the P1. replacing the rear springs on an 850 is nothing compared to this (my mechanics comment).
