StevieB
I'm running 93, the best readily available in democrat treehuggerland love the earth NY. Are the RC7YC's cooler than my stock volvo oem plugs?Yeah don't b*tch about 93, those of us in California only see 91 readily available. It used to drive me nuts when I had my 03 RC51 and it said right on the tank 92 octane or higher. Now from what I understand the Champions are either the stock pluge or the equivilent. Guest Guest
They should be one heat range colder than OEM.
USMC850T
It's boost related.
javadoc
Is it boost-related at a specific RPM range? I get my cut-out at about 4000rpm, give or take.I ordered some Champions this morning. I'm gonna try this.
gatecrasher
i dont think your problem is detonation related. its more than likely spark blow out like everyone is saying. i would hope you would notice audible detonation and take your foot out of it.....not to mention you can pull the plugs and see if its been detonating.i still cant believe how tight of a gap has to be run on these cars. i run .028 on NGK 7's in my 240 at 20+psi with no problems, and ran .024 on my WRX with 19psi and a 50 shot. As far as the gap is concerned, when on boost I ran with a .25 gap just fine, i did notice however, by closing the gap, to .023 it did help a bit. V70TeeFive2Catch
Not exactly. It is likely detonation. By closing the gap you in essence cool down the combustion temps by using a smaller spark. What's happening is the plugs are getting so hot it's firing before it sparks trying to push the piston back down before it crests. What you are feeling is the ECU backing out timing flattening out the power band.Colder plugs, tighter gap, better fuel...hang on.Dooode !Your wagon rocks :)
larryo108
rockauto looks solid man. As long as you aren't looking for Porsche calipers.
BeachRat
+1 for check your plug gap. when I installed my RICA ECU the car didn't run so great. Drop the gap down to .020-.023I'm running NGK's at about .025, and was getting misfires at a larger gap.Can I have 'Lower Resistance and Heat' for $200, Alex? Ding ding ding ding! The smaller gap helps the plug fire faster. The difference is very slight but significant enough to make a difference.

USMC850T
I went with the NGK equiv to the RC7YC's. I'll gap em tomorrow, I don't think I'll have time to put them in till saturday though. No i get off the gas imediately if i notice the said problem (since we havent decided if it's detonation or blow out)
Guest Guest
Can I have 'Lower Resistance and Heat' for $200, Alex?Bingo, therefore lowering combustion chamber temps, reducing detonation. Lower octane fuels produce more heat. You could also produce more horsepower with lower octane fuels if you can control temperatures. Higher octane fuels don't burn as fast or as hot and require more spark or compression. Since the turbocharger increases the compression it will perform better with higher octane fuels unless you can get the combustion temps under control during boost... "boost related"Does that make sense?Better intercooler and water injection are the solution for lower octane fuels and good performance. in my humble opinionAs long as you aren't looking for Porsche calipers.Larryo108 for the win...Dooode !Your wagon rocks smile.gifThx
