BeachRat
So my quest to alter the windshield washer system has begun!I want to re-wire the washer resevoir to a separate switch on my dashboard. The desired effect would be pulling the wiper stick toward the driver only causes the windshiled wipers to move. A separate switch on the dash would control the washer pump, and only the pump.My eventual intention is to re-route the washer fluid lines over the radiator/intercooler stack as a mister assembly. This way, I can still use my windshield wipers. I will also be able to use an existing pump and tank for the misters w/out installing a whole new tank, pump, wires and fluid lines. Here is a picture of the plug going to the washer pump. It has a small yellow wire with two white stripes, and a black wire (which I believe would be ground):And I'll back it up a bit to show reference for location under the hood:I have located the yellow wire in the large bunle going through the passenger side firewall:My question is this:Theory #1To achieve the desired setup, would I simply cut the yellow wire, and run it to my switch, leaving the black wire (assuming it's ground) alone? Obviously I'd have to run a second wire from the switch to the battery.Theory #2Would I cut both wires, at the plug, and run the yellow to the switch, the black to the neg battery terminal, and a final from the switch to the positive battery terminal?Theory #3My only apprehensions would be triggering a CEL since the car would not be detecting a washer pump in either setup. Perhaps I could splice a wire in via piggyback, and run it to the switch, then the switch to the battery? The wiper stick would still activate the pump, as would the new switch (I think...). BeachRat
Bump for anyone that has any valid thought, whatsoever.I'd just start tinkering but I've learned the hard (and expensive) lesson of letting alone what already works well. MrWinkey
Dude.....you are challenging my beer induced brain!!!! You won't throw a CEL doing what your doing. Black is ground and yellow is trigger wire ...Do you have a wiring schematic of the wiper system? If not PM me and I can hook you up with that if needed You will have to be patient though I will have to get it from my shop scan it and send it "if needed" ;)
