BenW
So I got a line on another Volvo. This time it’s an 89 740 Turbo. Manual 5 speed Tranny. It runs and drives fine according to the owner “Id drive it anywhere right now.”. Its 30 minutes away and she’s asking 1200 for it. Its black. She sent me pics this morning.....and another one.... Knowing what I do about the tomato (my WIP 84 242T), and its state of repair and possible head woes…. Here are my options. 1. Forget the newer Volvo. One is enough. It’s the devil you know vs the devil you don’t know. 2. Jump in with both feet man. Buy the newer one for maybe 1K. Sell that damn Buick for 300 and have a 740 Turbo daily and the tomato as a project car. A nice idea but do I wanna spare 700 quid right now plus parts for the tomato. 3. Jump in and clean house. Buy the 740 turbo. Sell the tomato for 350, sell the Buick for 300 and have a 400-600 dollar 740 turbo to daily and maybe play with a little. Thoughts, concerns, general BS? Three Fat Tigers
Well it looks like a nice car, I'd want to test drive it before giving it my blessing though. If it's in decent shape, it's well worth the $$, you could likely turn it around for more.1) can't see how it could be worse than the 242, not without seeing the cars first hand. The '89 should at least be just beyond the chronic wiring harness rot issues. It's LH 2.2 which is not to difficult to tweak for more power. Much better than Kjet, should be a faster car too. The manual is a big plus.2 & 3 are pretty personal, I have no point of reference on either the Buick or the 242T, or really how this 740 compares, thus I find it virtually impossible to formulate an cogent analysis. BenW
point taken TFT.Really boils down to whether i wanna get this car or not. Regardless of other two factors.TAke those as separate decisions. If so, then Buick gone. 242 Decide later maybe.

850Brian
Why didnt you get it. That is one clean looking car for that kinda money. If someone has the same car, they should pick it up for parts.
