Good Idea?

Hi. I'm new to the forums. I have an '01 S40 that is stock. The mods are coming. :D

Now, what I currently have is the HU-615 (AM/FM/Cass/CD in dash) and it sounds ok. Acutally, for stock it sounds pretty kick jerk at lower volumes. All I need from an HU is the ability to have enough volume to drown out my singing, and enough clarity that I don't cringe from "flabby" bass.

Here's what I'm thinking about doing:

I have an old Phoenix Gold Shapphire 5-channel amp from a previous vehicle. (The amp is 45W X 4 with 90W to the 5th channel for sub. It has built in X-overs for front, rear, and sub plus gain dial for all.) My friend is giving me a 12" Pioneer Sub in the original enclosure that came with the sub.

Now if I understand correctly, my HU-615 already uses a 100Watt amp...so I'm thinking that my smallish Phoenix Gold amp isn't going to hurt the speakers any while possibly improving their sound a little.

Does anyone know if the HU-615 has RCA preamp outputs? (If so, how many?)

I would really like to stay away from HI/Low coverters since IMHO the sound quality goes to hell.

I know how to wire up head units, and amps, and subs. I just didn't want to start tearing things apart if one of you had already done it. :D

Help? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

personally, i think you are better off with some aftermarket speakres and a HU if you want good sound quality, i dont think the stock hu have a opre amp output, and also, putting a niceamp on stock speakrse is anohter bottle neck :)

i don't think volvo's HU's have changed much therefore the HU probobly doesn't have RCA out's...But, AnthonyR knows how to make them for the pin connectors in the back of the stock HU's.
