Gaff
I have a similar question. Okay, if I were to do all the prepwork myself, including masking, how much so I look at for just a spary? How much would black paint and clearcoat cost?No self respecting body shop will give you a warranty for a car that you prepped yourself. Think about it. Painting is 80% prep, and if one greasy thumbprint gets put in the wrong place, if the surface isn't smooth, etc. the paint will fail. You can probably save few bucks by removing trim, lights, wipers, etc. yourself, but leave the masking and sanding to the pros.
Che'_Moderator
Paints a pain. If you wanna do it right there is a ton of sanding. And sanding sucks. Here it is rawHere is where you are once primedHere you are blockedHere you are with colorIf you dont mind orange peel you can skip a few steps

ProjectT-5R
alot of macco bashing. What do epect for 1K or less. I have taken a car or two to the local macco. And the did great. Granted the were totally stripped and just needed sanding and spraying. but they did fine for that. the just have crappy prepwork cause most of the people who go there dont care. any body shop is just about the people in the back. so it is very hit or miss. but no matter what. if you pay and it is not right. Bitch up a storm and make them fix it.

Gaff
The only thing I worry about is Sherwin Williams paint aren't they house paint?Yeah, it's house paint. But you can put it on cars if you use a high-quality roller.Kidding. S-W makes a lot of different paints. I can't speak for the brand. I paint at my job and I've always used PPG/Deltron or Azko with great results.
tomtbone
I think thats Stone Auto Body you are talking about with the Sherwin? Sherwin is pretty reputable yep. If you are seriously considering spending that much and y ou are a gearhead. You could make yourself a pretty sweet setup with that money for painting. A couple of top knoch guns. a nice compressor, paint. Who knows, its up to you.T
psy
In the end it really depends on where you go. I have been qouted 3-4K for the same color and went to another place that does a really awesome job with same paints and lifetime to the paint that was gonna charge me 1-1.2 for same color and 1700 to change it.
