2p3capri
Hi,AS you may know, I am not having a good time with my volvo's PCV system. This past saturday I did the resequite complete system replacement (FCP Groton Kit). And this morning after a long drive I did the dreaded "pull the dipstick test" and, well, it failed with flying colors as a long stream of smoke billowed out of the dipstick tube. So, clearly something is still wrong with my pcv system. My first thought was a possible blockage in the vacuum line feeding the PCV junctionblock/heater on the induction hose. So I checked it, and there is plenty of suction on that line. After this, I turned my attention to the junction block itself. Since mine is currently in a not so hot condition, removing it was easy. I cleaned it out again, and reinstalled it again. There was no change in the amount of smoke coming from the dipstick tube.To be fair, I do know that my induction hose needs to be replaced (due to the fact that the junction block basicly fell out when I was changing the hoses) And I have a used replacement part coming to me hopefully by the end of the week. However, even with me holding the junction block/heater in place, there was no change in the efficency of the PCV system. Does anybody have any ideas as to what I am missing? I Was sure to clear out all connections on the block to clear any coked oil/carbon deposits, and made sure to clear all vacuum lines. I am hoping it is something stupidly simple, As I don't wish to take it all the way apart again.
Gage
Sounds to me like if the system is not blocked at all you Might have bad piston rings i thought that when mine did that but i changed the PCV and it cleared it all up
Guest AlvinL
Did you clean out where the oil trap connects to the engine block. There can be so much gunk that it could be plugging it. Otherwise a tired old engine can do that if the blow-by is too much for the PCV to handle.Did you change the oil trap?
2p3capri
oil-seperator is new, and as well, the holes to the block were cleaned. I replaced the entire system with new parts I find it hard to belive the engine would be suffering that much blowby given its realitivly low miliage (156k, realitive being the key word there) of mostly all highway miliage. There are no other signs of excesive engine wear such as startup smoke, uneven idle, lack of power etc...I'm guessing I will just have to wait and see if the replacement induction hose helps clear up the problem. merlin390
I did the same thing with the PCV service and when I pulled the dipstick I got some smoke too. However could it be water vaper being burned off by the engine?
prasamin
could totally be condensation or h20vapi'd say get an oil change first, then see if the white smoke comes out after a long heated drive.
