Slater....rear End Links?

A call out to Slater... I just did an IPD swaybar upgrade on our '04 2.5T V70, front and rear (I know my signature says S70, but we also have a '04 V70). I couldn't wait for your production of the front endlinks for my car so I got IPD's HD ones....sorry for that. I'll buy yours next go round. After my mechanic got everything together (and oh what a nice difference in the ride quality!!), he pointed out the rear endlinks to me and how flimsy looking they are. Not only that, due to the beefy swaybar pulling these in even closer to the rear springs, I'm afraid that they might start rubbing against the spring cover. They're just mm's away. I don't know if beefier (larger diameter) endlinks in the rear would actually be pulled closer in or not, but wanted to ask you about this as well as whether or not you have or are going to have the endlinks for the rear. My mechanic told me that if they started rubbing, he could heat them and bend them to avoid the lip of the spring cover but I really don't think that's the answer to this issue. Any thoughts from you and others are most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The P2 cars have rear endlinks.... goofy Volvo engineers :P . If I Recall Correctly, Slater had mentioned that he was working on some endlinks for the P2 cars b/c the Evolve ones were really crappy.

yes P2 car have rear endlinks. and they are very short, and just as thin as the front ones. but since i'm not a mechanical engineer i won't comment on them. I also have the EVOLVE ones. there is a big difference after installing them. a good difference. they are high maintenance joints, but i'm on a high maintenance schedule anyway. for me they are working fine. if i see a better one; and so far i haven't, then i'll consider replacing them. and since this got moved to cosmetic and detailing, they sure look swanky!

last time i put a rear sway bar onl it was a RWD Pontiac T37, back then we drilled holes in the rear control arms and bolted a huge sway bar to it with U-bolts.

thanks!

Yeah, they are ultra close on the rear P2 cars.

I wasn't planning on having rear links fo rthe P2 40 series, just because I never sold a single 40 series front sway link (I have dozens sitting gathering dust). But I will have rear links for the other P2 cars. Do you know if they are the same or not?

If I had access to a P2 40 series in Cincinnati Ohio I may consider it.

i can post pictures of before OEM and after EVOLVE shots just to compare before i get everything together. but where?

Slater...mine's a P2 V70, not a 40....It is however an '04.

I would be very very very interested in what you fab up for the rear on our P2 cars. I don't know if they are the same for every vehicle. However, I do have the actual Volvo part numbers so I'll include them here if this helps. Now, remember, this is for my V70:

Rear endlink kit (includes the hardware): #30714678

Rear endlink (just the links): $30647920

Any suggestions in the interim?

By the way, thanks for answering my thread!

looking them up in the volvo parts program; the partnumber 30714678 is exactly the same for my S80 endlinks as yours.

some before and after pictures of the front and read swaybar endlinks OEM vs. EVOLVE, they add extra stability over the IPD swaybars:

the front fits well, the rear is a bit odd looking until it's loaded thenee it falls into place ok, i'll have some pictures of that soon. the link comes close to the control arm, but not too much. by the way wat you see are the IPD swaybar, H&R spring, and Bilstein shock/strut, and OEM endlink or EVOLVE endlink. there is not much room to play around in with the rear endlink position. the fact that these are not rubber or poly bushings have not made much additional noise that i can detect, but it tightens up the ride.

SkyWriter...thanks for the pics. They tell a whole lot. Do you think I'm okay with the rear OEM's with the IPD swaybar back there? With the weight on the ground maybe things will be okay. I guess time will tell. The evolve rear endlinks look really good. Where can I get these?

the EVOLVE's are out of production. nobody i know of makes a set for the rears either. if slater can get better he'll make a great set i'm sure. they are awfuly short, and the length/diameter ratio is certainly small enough that they're stiff enough to make less difference than your tires or the loseness of the endlink socket itself. mine was fine with the IPD sway and stock endlink. i would wait for slater; he's a good engineer, and they're likely to be well worth the wait. watch your over/understeer if they're ok, you're ok.

Thanks again... I just sent an email to evolve, but like you say, they are out of production so I don't guess I'm in luck there. Of course, Slaters will beat anything out there...his stuff has a great reputation. I took a second look at your photos and it's interesting that the springs are right there in the rear without any type of plastic cover. My V70 has a plastic spring cover of sorts that is attached to the bottom. On both sides, they are very very close to the endlinks, and that is my main concern. Anything with more diameter than the stock is apt to rub. I could always take the spring cover off I suppose, but that means taking the springs out again....lol.

Awesome. You're in luck. The P2 rear link kits will be ready soon!

Thanks!
