855 T-5 Vs Supercharged Mustang ('00)

Well, this is hardly a true race, but I definitly pwned this guy.

I was on my way to work today and was comming out of Tim Hortons (cheap Starbucks) and came up to a red light. I saw the cross-traffic light was yellow, and the right lane was empty, but it ended in about 275'. So I slowed the car down so i could cross the line just as my light was going green. I hit the gas and BAM - protected light, so I SLAM on the breaks and stop with a 5' head start on my buddies rag top supercharged Mustang.

All through the summer this guy and i managed to find oursevles in line leaving or going to work and always had an agressive time of it. Well, this light went green, and I took off, as did he, but i managed to get far enough in front of him that I made the merge and without a doubt won.

He had no objections to my victorious claim, and was kinda pissed. It's my favourite to beat mustangs in a wagon!!!

Not sure the exact specs on his stang. The Super might have been aftermarket. No matter, the car is far from top notch shape right now, but i'll take the braging rights!! :D

If it's supercharged, then it's aftermarket. Ford didn't S/C the Mustangs 'til 2003-04, and those were only Cobras. Cobra Rs were made in 2000, but they have the 5.4-liter engine and n/a will run dead even w/ an '03-04 Cobra. Nice kill, get some specs on that thing.

if its a 00 supercharged its aftermarket, prolly untuned if you beat him. the cobra R's from 00 were dirty, 5.4 liter n/a, 390/390. can stay with the s/c cobra, but in any sort of turn will blow it away. those things are real race cars, came with no stereo/ac

Word, they have a badass suspension and about a 1.5" ground clearance. U take 'em out on the street and they're ruined in 5 minutes. The 2007 Shelby Cobras coming out have the same 5.4 liter engine w/ a supercharger...they're gonna be putting out like 450bhp or so.

Didn't they make a handful of supercharged cobras before they made the newer style....not the newest. It was the body style which they switched from the 5.0 to the 4.6. Not positive though. I didn't even know they offered the 5.4 in the '00 cobra. Not a mustang officianado.

Back when they switched to the vert body style ('94-98), they had SVO Cobras. SVO (special vehicle operations) was switched to SVT (special vehicle teams) when they went to the newer design ('99-04) I believe. They weren't supercharged (I'm PRETTY sure on that one, but I could be wrong), they just had the 5.4 engine, the same block that's in the '00 Cobra R's. The internals could be different, but they were DOHC as well. The thing about them was they weren't put into mass production, so u couldn't buy them. They were built more for testing purposes for when they brought out the SVT Cobras in '99.

As far as switching styles, they had 5.0 GTs and Cobras in '94-95 in the vert bodies, then switched to the 4.6 (281 cubic inch) in '96. So u can get the vert bodies w/ a 302, or a 281.

all here is true. the 5.0 cobra, only made in 93/94/95 had 240 hp and 200 tq or something lame. but of course the 5.0 is a tough engine and responds really really well to some bolt ons. add a cam and some tuning and you got 400hp easy. the first year that the cobra's came S/c was 03.

how on earth do you get over 160 crank from a cam and tuning ?

It's easily done w/ an LS1. Stock is ~315bhp, 13% power loss to the rear wheels on a 6-speed is 274rwhp. It's not uncommon for a simple cam kit and a little tuning to net 400rwhp+. 160bhp extra would give u 475bhp, and that nets 409rwhp...and it's been done. Doubtful on the 302 tho, they don't compare to 350s.

Yeah...if u read my post u'll notice the line that says "Doubtful on the 302 tho, they don't compare to 350s." The 302 is the 5.0 Ryan was talking about. And no, vert Mustangs did not have the 351, they had a 302 (5.0 liter) in the early years and switched to a 281 (4.6 liter).

sorry.. i thought if you were going to bring random irrelevant engines into the discussion that it was open game for me to do so as well :)
