I'm pretty sure a LOT of people outside of the Volvo community have complained about the thing. It's more likely that you're one of the lucky ones gatecrasher.

You don't need a EBC...but if you're gonna buy anything get a AVC-R (tune boost by rpm, good for traction, higher gears, etc). The profec b spec II is crap, I mean CRAP. Stopped making it I believe and reinstated the spec I.

AVC-R has anyone USED one???

I have seen the avcr used and it works fine... it was used in conjunction with an SAFC...

If I were to do a EBC it would be the AVCR... alot of options that not many other ones have.

But there are alot of other EBCs out there.

turbosmart has one... there was this one I read about in "turbo" magazine... had a touch screen and it was pretty cheap (in relation to the others) it was pretty sweet lookin.

If you're interested I can try looking for the magazine and let you know some more brands.

screw it... I looked it up anyways...

Apexi AVCR

Blitz SBCI-D

Greddy E01 (overkill in my opinoin)

HKS EVC and EVC EZ II

Innovtae TURBO MSBC

Split Second (kind of a no nammer, very basic looking)

Turbosmart E-Boost ... Looks like a gauge.(the round one)

Then the really cool looking one

Wolrd Electronics TBC-1

Not sure about functionality... but the thing is a sweet idea with the touch screen and all

Google the names to get more info about them and all.

Take into consideration a few things too..

Some of them have valet modes

Mulitple preset modes

RPM and Gear Based Boost characteristics

Also, what exactly do you want to do with it... like, if you want sleeper don't get the E01 because it sticks out like a laptop in a cop car :-\

I'm pretty sure a LOT of people outside of the Volvo community have complained about the thing. It's more likely that you're one of the lucky ones gatecrasher.

several friends with cars ranging from 1.6-3.0 liters, turbos ranging from tiny exhaust sided t-2 frame turbos, my own garret 2871R, my old T28, my T60-1..... list goes on.

the ONLY problem ive ever personally had with mine thats been echo'd by another friend was that it reset itself twice....in the 2+ years ive owned it. it just randomly set itself back to default. as i was pulling out of the burnout box noless. i had it reset where i wanted it before the tree was lit though.

the biggest mistake ive seen people make with the spec 2 is to jack the gain way up on it. but anyway, you guys seem dead set on it, and i have no intentions of making it some crusade to get people to use it. i just hate to see people abandon things for the wrong reasons.

As for the AVC-R.........99% of the people ive known to have them, have NEVER come close to learning how to use them correctly, and just end up using the very basic functions of them. its a great boost controller, but i have a feeling most people here wouldnt use it to its potential. the only thing that ever really appealed to me about them was that you could use it to help some of the traction nightmares with a FWD car. since all of my cars have either been rear or awd.......thats never been a problem for me.

If you want to eliminate spikes, get a manual boost controller. You can get one for 25 bucks and there is no electronic middle man to delay the boost and make spikes. You can two stage them or get the extender thingy from dawes which lets you change from inside yor car too. I loath electronic crap that was invented to be a gadget or gimmick like electronic throttle control, and now electronic steering on Lexus's :( . Or the stupid electronic liftback feature on the C70's seats!!! It takes an hour to get some one in the backseat and it is another thing to break! Stop the elctronic madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gatecrasher, I agree 100% that most people don't ever use the advanced features and it usually turns out to be a waste of money.

I don't get it myself, why you would buy it and not use ot for the features it has. But I do agree with you that most people never learn how to set it properly. I have had people flat out tell me they don't even know how to use it really. Sad :(

MBC does not a spike eliminator make.

MBC is not the answer for everything either :(

There are reasons you go with a EBC over an MBC... I don't need to explain them because they are semi-obvious.

I don't have crazy spikes with my MBC. That isn't a universal quality of them though. Some MBCs I've had have spiked like crazy. It all depends on the design and how it is used.

If you are looking EBC I would 2nd, or 3rd or whatever one that has boost control based on RPM. It is pretty handy.

I've heard one good story with the spec II and the guy just set gain to 0% and boost efficiency or w/e to something. Complete fluke lol. Everyone else has sold/tossed their's (hence their being discontinued). AVC-R only good stories, but yes, most VS won't use it to it's potential...just get a MBC.

I was using the HKS EVC II on my LPT and it worked great. Was running appx 11-13 lbs and in 5th gear it would hit 15 lbs. I was going to sell my 855 so I sold the EVC then decided to keep the car. Now I need another one. But I give it a 2 thumbs up.

Get rid of the POS internal wastegate if you want to really eliminate creep... and replace it with a tial external...

My pick of ebc's is the apexi avcr or the very funky and massively popular ( over here ) aussie E-BOOST.

On my, R I played with a friends avcr (while he borrowed my T4) for a week and yeah, It was great, but for the $$ there's better things that give me extra HP... I'm sticking with my mbc for now

Get a SARD EBC...built into a 60mm gauge. They're very good, though pricey. Guy on ebay has one used, he'll haggle if you PM him since he's foreign lol.
