More P2 Suspension Fun

Recommended Posts

apparently for S60 and S80 and some V70's and V70 XC's there is a SUM (Suspension Module, found behind the drivers side carpet under the console carpet) that is used to detect position sensors and shock absorber resistances. i noticed that after getting the Bilsteins installed I would get the DTC light every so often on some turns, and acccelerations. anyone have any experience with it? apparently you can get an upgrade; but what it upgrades it to... i don't know. i would rather have it calibrated. i don't have any correlation between nivomat system

i wonder if i could make a sustanance reverse engineering these cars. a second career would be nice.

Does your car have suspension control??

As far as I'm aware only the 4C equiped cars come with a SUM. The sum needs calibration after changing aligment settings or when the suspension has been worked on to dial in all the sensors.

4C was first introduced in 2003 with the R models which used Comfort/Sport/Advanced settings for the shock absorbers, "Skyhook" reactive damper control and acceleration/decelleration damper control.

The shock use electronically adjustable valves and the system uses a set of G/Yaw and steering angle sensors to know where it is in space.

After that some of the P2 models could be equiped with a lesser Comfort/Sport 4C variant as an option.

I highly doubt your S80 is equiped with this system however the DSTC system does use a G sensor.

Probablt the higher forces on the car makes the system activate a bit earlier.

Skywriter, sorry for hijacking your thread.. i read your sig.. sounds like you have some nice upgrades to your T6.. I have heard of issues with the tranny not being able to handle any more power. have you had any issues? Did you upgrade your tranny?

Thanks

no problem, i was skiming through V@DIS and saw it. i misspelled STC anyway, and wasn't really thinking at the time. obviously my car doesn't have this, as Johann mentioned, but it looked interesting :)

i don't have anything wrong with my tranny yet. but there's some things to consider:

1) manufacturing parts and process variation may make this particular tranny more or less able to handle extra power.

2) there are a couple of companies that make upgrades for the tranny inards and torque convertors. for the labor to change the tranny it's probably worth letting it die, and building up the replacement anyway.

3) there are opportunities for increasing it's reliability in other ways.

4) in geartronic mode (quasi-manual) i can get the engine RPM's to hang around 2K in 3rd and 4th gear. I can wiggle the accelerator anyway I like; it won't affect the engine throttle, I have to shift to get control back. seems like a bug, that's never there in auto.

The trans in a T6 is a 4T 65E gm uses this trans on most of there 3.8L. There are changes valvebody, converter, ect you can't 98% of the parts through volvo for them they have you changing trans for solonold codes. There great trans I worked for gm for a number yrs before going to volvo (don't know if thats good or bad)

well, i've found two sources of performance transmission upgrade/rebuild when the time comes, if it does blow up. i'll have a new one done up by either of these fellows. or i'll do it this fall which ever comes first.
