i was wiring a boost gauge, so i took off the positive terminal. i didnt really think about the stereo. now my sc815 wants a code, which i do not have. do i have any alternative other than going to the dealer? i have my vin# if that helps, or i can pull out the 815 and get whatever serial is on there....

hmmm

i kind of like tunes...

CALL the dealer and give them your VIN, they shouldnt charge you anything for it. when i first got my car i had to call the dealer in atlanta cause it was saturday and the dealer in knoxville was closed

ooook

so i have the code, it had zeroes in it. there are numbers 1-6 on the radio. it locked me out. i called back, they said that all i needed were the non-zero numbers. they also said the radio would take inputs again after some time. so in the morning, i will try again and disconnect the thing if i have to.

anyone else have this much difficulty? its kind of pissing me off

leave the igniton in position 1 for about 20min, then you can enter the code again. Also, its for the best that you know how to do this, I cant count the number of times I dissconnected my battery to work on something in the car. Its just best you have the code and know how to input it yourself. I have mine memorized.

the car just sat for 30min, in key pos. I, with the radio on.

it still says OFF and wont take any inputs.

should i leave it sit longer? or go to the dealer. i really dont want to have to pay anything for this, but it really ought not to be this difficult

leave it longer, i remember mine taking about an hour and a half on an SC-816

^ i tried disconnected the batt. for 15min, also unplugging the radio from the harnesses. no luck.

ill wait about 2 hrs, then im driving to the dealer and having them deal with it. i dont think they should charge anything, i followed their instructions and the code apparently didnt work. that, and they gave me a 6 digit code w/ zeroes the first time, then i called back and they said, oh, ignore the zeroes and use the rest. too bad i was locked out already.

/ pissing and moaning

i know, aftermarket is the truth. i have other things i want to spend $$ on. now that i have an accurate boost gauge, evil voices are speaking to me...

i can see welding things in my future...

update:

went to the dealer, i pulled the radio and gave it to them. they had suspected it wasnt original since the first code didnt work.

they ran it in their computer, gave me a new code. everything works

synopsis:

my 815 isnt the original to the car

Smart Volvo in madison is helpful and courteous. i recommend them. i have had only good experiences there.

I have this problem all the time in my s70. To be honest and realistic its closer to two hours with the key in ON position then it will say "code". Its a pain to deal with.. sometimes i dont have tunes for 2 or 3 days..

Now I'm scared cause I have an SC-815 and don't have the code either. But I'm glad I read this so I don't have to go through all the same trouble.

just go to the dealer and get it, you will need it eventually, everytime you mess with the airbag system you should unhook the battery, which erases the code. I have memorized my code I have had to put it in so many times.
