Chopper
Hello all,I am looking to try and restore the front seats in my Volvo, but I am having a bit of trouble decoding the interior colour code from the VIN or engine info plate. There is a reference at volvoworld for exterior colour, but not interior.I am looking at the colour chart here:Leather Dyesand trying to match it to my interior:I believe I have "Shale"by the way, my vehicle is a 1998 V70 T5 (Black on Tan) I'd like to try this stuff out and see if it works, post a DIY, etc. Thanks!BrandonAlso, check this out.I doubt it works that well/too good to be true, but my seats are pretty bad, not much to loose. BeachRat
Yup, someone here did this with good results and posted a thread on it a few months ago.A leather filler? I've read reviews on a couple products that seemed to not work well at all...
rp850
Leatherique makes a crack filler product that actually works pretty well. You may have to redo the seats every few years but it's a whole lot cheaper and easier than replacing the leather itself. I had them make a custom dye based on a sample from my car. They got it pretty darn close to my interior color.Overall, I was very happy with the results.A leather filler? I've read reviews on a couple products that seemed to not work well at all... rp850
I'm not sure what it's made of. Once you let the filler dry and then go over it with dye you really can't tell the difference. Maybe it's the hot Texas summers we have down here but I think it will last a couple of years and then have to be redone. No I know for sure it wasn't that brand... I'll have to check them out! Aequitas_Veritas
yeah my problem is finding a sample they can use, its all in my car! Hey andy, if you find a sample order me some too, ill hit you back whatever it costs.
rp850
I used a 1 inch square from the back of one of the rear seat side cushions. They pop out pretty easily and there's quite a bit of extra leather there. It's kind of a catch-22: the sample should match the part of the car that's been exposed to the sun all these years but to do that means taking a sample swatch from a visible area of the car. You might also talk them into sending a piece of your car (like the side door insert) and having them ship it back to you when they're done. I think all they do is put it under some sort of spectrometer or something that can recognize and duplicate the exact color. You'd probably have to pay extra for that though.Hope this helps.yeah my problem is finding a sample they can use, its all in my car! Make sure you get their cleaner/prep or the dye won't stick. Also get the duller. The stuff works. If you can send a sample - even vinyl, they will color match for free. I've used their stuff. rp850
Yeah, definitely get the prep solution and everything else they recommend if you go for this. They have good instructions and if you follow them you'll get good results.I think the custom colors cost more but they will match your sample pretty much guaranteed. If they are off a little (which happened to me) you can send the dye back and they will try to match it up better for free. If you send them a sample like your side door insert and you want it back, they'll probably ask you to pay the shipping for them to return it to you. If you send in the 1" sample swatch, you don't get that back.I've used their stuff. Make sure you get their cleaner/prep or the dye won't stick. Also get the duller. The stuff works.
