whatme
I was just thinking about what all you would have to do to hit 350 whp in one of our cars. Obviously exaust, chip, turbo upgrade, and stage 0 would be needed. How far else do you think you would need to go? It seems like you could hit around 300 whp with just these things but i dont know about beyond that. Anyone have any thoughts? I dont mean anything extreme and nitrous would be to easy. What do you guys think?
JHEIII874T5M
I would say a 19T with a custom tune putting down around 310 WHP. Then put a 35 wet shot of Nitrous Xpress on there... just keep an eye on timing.Rumor has it that running C16 on a 16G will get you 330 WHP, but that's all smoke screens and mirrors until Charles proves otherwise.oh, also might want to looking on doing some head work... some noob mentioned it a while back and it seemed to have worked for his car. whatme
So, basicaly, without nitrous, above 320 whp it gets tough to make more power without getting into the not-so-bolt-on upgrades. Also, is there any engine swap possible for an 850 as some of the guys with 240's have done?
JHEIII874T5M
yeah.engine swaps... eh, maybe put a newer head on there to get VVT. With the money spent on an engine swap, you might as well throw some SPM Rods and venolia forged pistons in there.
whatme
vvt?I dont supppose you could drop in a crate engine or sum such without more trouble than its worth?
JHEIII874T5M
go buy a 740 wagon if that's what you're interested in doing.

blown_volvo850r
U'd hafta do rods if u want the engine to run for very long. Just do the math tho, w/ the auto 4-speed u're gonna lose 20% to the wheels. 440bhp w/ a 20% loss gives u 352fwhp, so that's the crank hp u're talking about. narxs70
take the same basic approach you did to the bike. exhaust, pistons (and rods), etc. just add bigger stuff to it all. and this topic was brought up the other day, you may be able to still find it if you search. whatme
so rods+pistons+19t+lotsa psi=more power? And how harrd do yall think an engine swap would be? Dificulty scale of 1-10. 1 being installing a new ecu and 10 is...... really hard. manual conversion sitting somewhere around 7-and-a-half-ish. 9? 10? Texas850Turbo
Well, last week there was a T5R with a manual swap and a GT30 that put down 355 whp in Houston.... he's kinda anti-VS though.... it's not the end of the world if you have to fab up new oil/water lines, and it opens up your turbo choices considerably. volvo4lif3
Sean, by anti volvo t5r owner, do you mean Doug? And if so, what made him anti vs in the first place?
KS70T5M
do we know how much more power the glt cams get us?
EricF
Be difficult to see 350 whp with stock head without a tooooooooooon of boost (on any turbo).Head work, good tuning, decent size turbo (like what I have ) and some higher RPM to give you a better powerband with GLT cams and some cam timing to optimize for higher RPM.I've got my car set up to be able to reach 400+ whp with rods and a worked head in case I decide to hang onto it longer than I planned.... So my parts list is basically what I think it would take minus a head and rods :)
