gokiburi
I want to upgrade the system in my 850 GLT in multiple ways (head unit, speakers, ipod adapter, etc) but can't get past the first hurdle- the driver's side front door speaker is out. I took out the stock speaker and tested it through the wiring on the passanger side and it worked. So the speaker isn't the issue. I so wish it was that simple. It must be the wiring.Actually I have a few issues, but I'll stick to this one for now.And I've taken the head unit out to see what the previous owner had going on (an ancient 6 disc changer, an old Sony with a corded remote was connected to the trunk) to find a mess of black electrical tape and confusion. I removed most of his mess and connected a new head unit but the front speaker is still out. So the wiring issue is somewhere I can't get to without removing the dash.I've already monkeyed with this a lot and am all about trying to figure it out myself, but I have this naging feeling I'm going to screw something up (airbags) if I take off the dash myself and try to rewire the speaker.Should I pay a pro or figure this out myself?Reading through some posts, it sounds like there's a range of experience on the board from pro's to knuckleheads like me. Any advice? War stories?
Owned
I'd work my way from your HU all the way down the wire with a DMM and see where you're losing power. It's possible that a wire is cut/broken or maybe even corroded inside the jacket, where you wouldn't normally be able to see it. Try to test once every foot or so.Also, here's a tip for the future. If you need to test a speaker, a 9 volt works just as good as what you did, but is usually a little easier. :)

There are also one or two threads on the topic, but I believe that link should get you well on your way.
