Owned
I've found a local company who produces kit cars. I found one of their kits to be overwhelmingly appealing and hope to purchase one ASAP. However, I'm somewhat held back by the fact that I've never built or driven a kit car. I've seen both good and bad looking finished cars, but have yet to see the process that takes place prior to the end results. Does anyone have any experience in this area or advise for or against a purchase like this?If you are curious, it's from Factory Five Racing, which, from what I have heard, is very reputible. ACBarnett
I love the GTM, and it's great to see a local MA company building such a nice car.Personally if I had 50-70k lying around I'd love to build one with the M5 v10 and have a nice upholstery shop do the interior. Ghetto ferrari in my butt!

Ghetto ferrari in my butt!Well, you're certainly welcome to help me build one. They told me the lowest depost that they're taking on the car is $2,000. I can pay that in cash no problem. However, in terms of the other $17,900 (which I do not have in cash), how do banks handle an auto loan for a car that doesn't fully exist yet? I suppose if it came down to it, I could refinance my house, but I'd like to not extend my mortgage any further.
ACBarnett
now that I think of it, a LS engine with some sort of forced induction system based off of truck parts would also be hot as hell, hello 8's and 9's!!and I'll happily pitch in with building help if you get one... I hope you like Michelob. ;)

viperman135
I did some research on them because I thought I might be able to pull one off on a budget. Preety much trying to get one to run for under $20,000 would be very hard. Based on the fact that I found most kits with body stuff (body, doors hood) for around 10-15k. Some kits use a tube chassis but other require you to use the mecinical stuff from a Mustang (rip body off and use chassis. The over all price kind of depends on how much you can get the Mustang for. I guess you could do it for right around 20k but it would not be that nice I dont think. Dont take what I said too serously I looked at them a while back and did not research to hard into it.Most of the factory five cars are $30,000 and way way up. There's one in their customer section of the website that was done for $23k and change that I think looks very, very nice.I'm shooting for ~$40,000 all said and done. Strangely enough, I believe that's roughly the price of a new S60R. I've built a skill level II S2000 and Audi TT...they were about $14.99 a piece and took a good hour to put together. They have reached their maximum level. :monkey:
miniman342
a couple of years ago, I went to the Factory Five race/show at VIR in virgina. It was pretty cool. they seem pretty straight forward to build looking at the DVDs.

One of my good friends is about to finish up his FF Cobra, getting the paint done as I type. Car's fast, actually really fast, and he had a blast building it. Really what it comes down to is how much you can get the Mustang (parts) for and how much of your own sweet you put into the build. He's pretty much running the stock mustang 5.0 with straight through exhuast and FF headers and the car really moves. I can't even begin to imagine what some of the SC'd or Ford crate engines will do in the FF Cobra. You also might want to see if you can get in contact with nkennedy from this forum. He just finished up his FF coupe a couple of month's ago. Unfortunately I can't seem to find his website url, he has a ton of pics posted of the build.
