ziddey
hi. when i first got the car, everytime i changed the volume, id hear that kind of static. well, i dont think its called static. its like someone is scratching the vinyl or somethingl ike that. eitherway, other than that, it was moreorless fine.it would pretty much have all two channels working fine. however, as time progressed, the right channel worked less and less unless i got the knob to just the right part of each volume setting.its nearly impossible to get it on the low to normal volumes. since im using a mp3 player through my tape passthrough, i have my volume way up and my right channel usually works. however, i get crazy noise this way.i was thinking of taking out the radio and looking at the knob but i dont know if itll be something i can service. i dont want to do it yet because i would have to find the security code and i have no idea where it is.does anyone have any ideas on my volume knob? Veneficus
I had this problem back when I had my '86 LeBaron except it was from under use. The only thing that I found that worked was replacing the head itself. Its not worth it to get the unit itself repaired in my opinion. If you're only running a tape deck the whole unit won't cost you much so its definatly worth it. Check the for sale forum and you might find one thats up. ziddey
really? so youre saying that the knob is very difficult to work with eh? the fact that the right channel likes to go makes me think its purely a physical connection so it may just be a bad contact? eitherway, the knob doesnt pop out (i yanked on it, and now its loose )
Veneficus
The only other thing I would recomend is if you think that that channel is loose in the back you may as well check it. Here's the guide to help you isolate the channel if thats what it is. You may just have to re-attach or reposition the wire. HereIf that doesn't work maybe someone else may know the source of your problem...---Brian
jp764ti
try this, go to radioshack and get some contact cleaner and pop off the knob and spray it up in there. what hapens is stuff gets on there and makes the conection bad.

Veneficus
You could maybe get the face plate off (I know its been done) and see if you can get a brush under there. IF you can maybe you could put the contact cleaner on the brush and get it in there. Just an idea...

Chris_R
I had the same problem. Replacing with an aftermarket deck was my solution. You could probably have it repaired, but get the code first. -Chris
