In An Effort To Improve Vs

I actually do have a member/admin relations suggestion. Create a profile for a suggestion box. A place where a member can send a "Suggestion", not a whine, bitch, or complaint. Those are for Greg's inbox :D

Where if you have an idea, the admins can take a look at it. This way also if lots of members are suggesting the same thing, the admins can see it.

More pictures of naked women. There, I said it.

Edit: just lightening up the mood girlies!

So I can't argue a point? SUck it. I'll say what I want. You don't get the poing anyways, it's the same reason guests are still allowed to post. Chuck(his site) doesn't want people who have strict firewalls at work to not be able to participate on the site, and he doesn't want to make some joe blow join the site just so they can ask a ? about their car. Not everything has been talked about and in the maintenance for forums diagnosing goes on and that can't be searched a lot of times. I also do not want to see a bunch of n00bs spaming the other forums so they can post a question about aligning pressure plate or "can anyone tell me where this goes" etc etc.

Part of my reason for doing this, and I mentioned this to Kevin, was because Admins/Mods are often setting a bad example by slamming on people. Your job is not to tell me to "suck it." I agree that we shouldn't make it impossible for new members to get started, especially if their first time here is with a question to keep a Saturday project from turning to disaster. Again, I stress that they don't have to spam up other forums, they can ask questions in topics with issues similar to theirs. I HIGHLY doubt the weekend mechanic will have a question that hasn't been covered here in some way, shape or form.

Alternatively, instead of flaunting your ability to post profanity, you could have suggested an incentive for current members to reduce spam. That was the goal of the original suggestion to limit starting threads, right? What about a label in their sig showing how many spam threads they've reported/helped shut-down, similar to the bombs painted on the hulls of WWII combat aircraft. Maybe you have a better incentive idea, or a totally different solution. Hell, it might not even involve me interacting with my own anatomy...

I maybe agree with you here, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by it Andy. I mean, I think they should be dictators, giving them the right to delete anything they want, or even move it into the mod forums for discussion. Overall, the fellas and ladies are pretty fair when it comes to deleting/editing stuff. I get a kick out of the edits, personally, even if they are some of my stupid posts (there are alot of them, I know, so you don't need to point them out Greg and Kevin!).

Here's what I think should happen. If something is deleted or closed by a mod, they simply shoot that member a PM explaining why it was deleted or closed. If there were 100 other threads about that same thing, then PM that member with a link to the search function or even a link to the info they need, and delete the particular thread. Bandwidth and internet space costs alot of money, so the less excess baggage we have, the better it is for all of us, esp Charles and those who donate money to the site. Even I'm guilty of getting lazy and not hitting the search button, but I'll change, I promise!

I agree, editing isn't rampant and is usually spot-on. The occasional misuse, however, does happen. There we go: a PM is always a good idea. A nice PM, explaning why their post was edited or deleted. Might keep the conlfict off the forum, and save a few threadlocks and OT shove-offs.

My job is to help the forum as much as I can and I do. I'm not gonna not tell some one to suck it just because you don' tlike it, so suck it.

SUCK IT.

Now to my next point, there is ALWAYS going tobe someone like you stirring things up and starting trouble. Every thread you post in you stir trouble up. We can set up a huge list of protocol for mods to follow and someone like you will always have an issue.

Andy, you know as many do that if you have a problem to contact the mod for the forum you're having an issue with.

VS will always be VS and these things that you call "issues" will most likely always be here. Take it or leave it. :)

I personally have noticed a reduction in swearing because of the lack of the word filter...(IE: lack of people bypassing the word filter)

Maybe it's just me. I personally don't swear unless i see someone using it first, and even then, i only use it if i really feel it's necessary.

SUCK IT.......

says the lonely boy.

But seriously, I think we are getting a little out of hand here Andy. You're taking Greg's comments out of context. Yes, he said "suck it", but you also have to go back and read each and every post the guy has ever made and realize that he does it to EVERYBODY! You have to be able to read between the lines and catch the sarcasm, and with Greg, it's 99% sarcasm, but with a little hidden hint. I made the mistake of taking Greg and Stephen's sarcasm too literally in the past, but I've talked with Kevin, and I know that Greg just likes being sarcastic. Sometimes you just have to take it with a grain of salt and move on!

He didn't really want anybody to suck it, he just meant it as a metaphor. ;):monkey:

I've had good advice and help from Greg when I ask for it, so I have no problem with the sarcasm now.

I honestly think that one of the larger issues on the boards is an extremely extensive moderating staff which can cause problems. Especially since apparently Chuck doesn't have the ability to monitor who does what. I don't feel like hashing over everything that has been debated about in the past.

Personally I think it the top tier mods should be the only mods, and they are on often enough to make do without the rest.

My 2c...

That's fine for thos of us who've been here since the coup'. But lets say that a Saturday mechanic makes a post that Greg doesn't like, and he gets a what I like to call "Greg house of Double Barrel Justice". We may never hear from him again. Shot, on a good day, he may end up leaving VS and hanging himself in his garage.

I generally don't unleash the "goodness" on n00bs, especially in the maint. forum. :P
