stew
Hi allHow many times has this been discussed, but I would like some opinions on this set upAfter reading many posts (Bilstein, Koni etc) has anyone tried thisSachs sport struts and rear shocks with the standard 850 T5 springs and then add the IPD anti sway bars - which I believe are good bang for your buck?????ThanksStew :P
BlackT5
If you're looking to retain the stock ride height, that setup should work fine. I've heard great things about the IPD sways.
kenhoeve
If you're going for some measurable performance increase from your shocks and struts, I would forego the Sachs for Bilstein HD's. HD's work fine with the stock springs.
aikitect
I can not say if the proposed set-up is a good bang for teh buck, but I can offer my .02 on handling in general. Springs carry the load of the car. Shocks dampen the motion of the springs and to absorb sudden road abberations. Visualize how the components work and you will see what I mean.If you really want supreme handling you will want to upgrade to stiffer springs. Heavy duty shocks will not do a whole lot to keep the car level in a sweeping turn. Indeed, very stiff shocks can upset the balance of the car if one happens on a road abberation. Stiff shocks can also cause the car to hop when accelerating or cornering on rough pavement. When I had a Porsche I found that the stiffer sport springs and torrsion bars coupled with sport shocks set at full soft gave the best ride - that setup gave good, solid cornering (springs) but still had the ability to go over railraod tracks and potholes without jarring my teeth out (shocks). Some of my Porsche buddies had very, very stiff springs and sport shocks set relatively soft and thier cars were much more tolerable than I would have expected. Stormin Norman
I have stock springs with the IPD bars and Bilstein HDs. There is virtually zero body roll and corners nice and flat.
