so i'm moving about 1500miles in the next 2 weeks and was trying to figure out whether to ship my car to a terminal in chicago (about 100miles from where i'll be) or just drive it up.

the options:

ship:

cost $980 terminal to terminal enclosed carrier soft strapped

can drive with the wife in her car and take turns driving etc.

not having to drive the whole way and get to have company

will not put 1500miles on the odo

Drive:

drive my own car up and save the $980 instant out of pocket

need to change brakes and oil (new brakes! 302mm??)

driving solo sux

will probably take a bit longer as caravaning in 2 cars

plus double gas price

I don't really trust auto movers

your thoughts /opinions are welcome

I've used DAS in the past and haven't had any problems. My wife's Honda Civic was shipped from Minnesota to North Carolina and back. I drove the Volvo. I'm not sure what we will do this summer when we move from Minnesota to Massachusetts, but I wouldn't hesitate to ship with DAS again..I had no problems with them. At this point shipping will depend on how we arrange our move, lots of things to coordinate..and money to be spent.

I say drive as I don't trust anyone to be as carefull with my rides as I am.

I too will be making a 1500 mile drive solo - well not quite my wife will be with me but she falls asleep anytime we drive more than 40 minutes.

If you go the carrier route, make sure they're insured. Take pictures of the car beforehand and make sure every scratch and ding is documented on your receipt so in case something does happen you can file a claim with them.

Maybe it's just me but everytime I hand the keys to someone else I think of Ferris Bueller when they dropped the Ferrari off at the parking garage...
