cRRRRazy
so i'm moving about 1500miles in the next 2 weeks and was trying to figure out whether to ship my car to a terminal in chicago (about 100miles from where i'll be) or just drive it up.the options:ship:cost $980 terminal to terminal enclosed carrier soft strappedcan drive with the wife in her car and take turns driving etc.not having to drive the whole way and get to have companywill not put 1500miles on the odoDrive:drive my own car up and save the $980 instant out of pocketneed to change brakes and oil (new brakes! 302mm??)driving solo suxwill probably take a bit longer as caravaning in 2 cars plus double gas priceI don't really trust auto moversyour thoughts /opinions are welcome
cRRRRazy
also, the shipper is DAS if anyone has heard of them (dependable auto shippers)

burchs1
I've used DAS in the past and haven't had any problems. My wife's Honda Civic was shipped from Minnesota to North Carolina and back. I drove the Volvo. I'm not sure what we will do this summer when we move from Minnesota to Massachusetts, but I wouldn't hesitate to ship with DAS again..I had no problems with them. At this point shipping will depend on how we arrange our move, lots of things to coordinate..and money to be spent.

Helmut Ranff
1500 miles is not so bad. I have driven to California and back twice. I have towed cars behind a rental moving van. Like Nike says just do it
prasamin
if you're going solo for 1500 miles, then I vote ship.you'll be paying about $200-250 for gas, so you're basically spending $700-$750 to ship the car.
Burban
I say drive as I don't trust anyone to be as carefull with my rides as I am.I too will be making a 1500 mile drive solo - well not quite my wife will be with me but she falls asleep anytime we drive more than 40 minutes. rp850
If you go the carrier route, make sure they're insured. Take pictures of the car beforehand and make sure every scratch and ding is documented on your receipt so in case something does happen you can file a claim with them. Maybe it's just me but everytime I hand the keys to someone else I think of Ferris Bueller when they dropped the Ferrari off at the parking garage... so i'm moving about 1500miles in the next 2 weeks and was trying to figure out whether to ship my car to a terminal in chicago (about 100miles from where i'll be) or just drive it up.the options:ship:cost $980 terminal to terminal enclosed carrier soft strappedcan drive with the wife in her car and take turns driving etc.not having to drive the whole way and get to have companywill not put 1500miles on the odoDrive:drive my own car up and save the $980 instant out of pocketneed to change brakes and oil (new brakes! 302mm??)driving solo suxwill probably take a bit longer as caravaning in 2 cars plus double gas priceI don't really trust auto moversyour thoughts /opinions are welcome
