Running Way Too Lean...

About a week ago I pumped gas w/o turning my engine off. Ever since when I'm crusing or at idle, it'll intermittently start to die or lose all power for a second or two (but never actually fully die.) The AFRs will go up into the 17s-18s, forcing me to either downshift and floor it (the AFRs do go back to normal when at WOT) or put it in neutral and wait for it to get a bit better.

I figure that pumping gas with the engine on stired up some crap at the bottom and clogged my fuel filter or messed up the pump. Are there any tests I can do to eliminate non-problem parts? (IE: fuel pump isn't cheap and I'd probably be stuck with OEM from the dealer as I'd only have tomorrow to work on it so any way to find out if it's a different problem?)

(by the way: it's a 96 850R 5spd)

exactly - like I said I've never played with the fuel stuff on this car. Other fuel pump I've had out before had a little mesh/screen thing over the inlet to the pump. Is this the filter or is there also an inline filter on the 850s?

I would change the filter. It is relatively easy to do and it could be your whole problem.
