Hi,

Hmm, was reading another thread here. Is it possible to put two small subs in the rear doors? Would that be acceptable?

So we are talking about: 2x components in the front doors, tweeters in the dash and 2 small subs in the rear doors? All subs appear to be so large that they would not fit the door.

How about a subwoofer under the passenger seat and the amplifier in the rear trunk, in the small compartment over the spare tire?

Regards,

Caaine

Hi,

Here I go, first item purchased: Alpine CDA-9835R

Heh, my 700USD budget kinda out the window there :D Just could not resist, such a sexy HU.

This HU states 4x60w V-Drive High Power Amp... can I assume it´s false according to previous posts about built in amps?

EDIT: Conflicting information on US and Europe version of the Alpine website. See Euro version here.

Caaine

A small sub is an oxy nice guy. W/o a very sophisticated enclosure, which you don't have room for in the door, there is no way you will get any real deep bass from a 6" speaker, let alone anything smaller. Even then you would have to have huge amounts of power to make the thing move. Also, the two bass drivers would face each other, so you would get 100% cancellation of anything mixed to the center, like most bass is, due to phase cancellation.

Plus, due to the window, you have very little depth available, so you have to use a driver with a small magnet to fit.

I would try to find a good car audio shop and see what they suggest. You don't have to buy from them to use their ideas.

You might be satisfied with a pair of 6x9s, which can be installed in the back deck with some cutting. A good 6x9 will get to about 45hz, which isn't bad for those who are not extremely demanding about their sound.

Hi,

I think I am not extremely demanding about sound, I do realize that the stock stuff is giving me more noise than sound though. I can actually generate some amount of noise.

I think the subwoofer-in-the-doors idea has been cancelled but the subwoofer-under-the-passenger-seat idea is still alive.

What is a best way to fit a subwoofer in the trunk so it takes the least space? A box consumes cargo space, but if it´s possible to have it relatively small and screwed stuck on the rear seat back I might consider that option. Would have to convince the missus though ;)

well, if you are under the limited budget and want decent sound, dont attempt any fancy dieas such as sub in doors and rear deck...if you want to go with 6" subs int he rear deck, you willneed to cut, dampen and build an enclosyure the rear deck, someting that is not fun by any means...the only 6" subs woth looking at is the jl 6w0, and they should not be used free air...in the end, you will spend a huge amount of time and money for a set up that doesnt sound as good nor gets as loud as a simple sub in the trunk. the problem with sub under the seat also runs intot he issue that you probably will not be able to have a lot of air space down there andy ou need avery shallow sub (remember toa ccount for th 3/4" x2 of box wood thickness)...i would recommend against it for your pusposes...

my suggest is to go with a 10" sub, and build a small box, one that is barely bigger than two shoe boxes put together side by side, that will not takeup much usable sapce at all. many 10s require onyl a .5 cub feet interior dimension wchih meaks it quite small...:) if you really want to go sub without loosing any trunk space, whcih is about 80 percent of my isntalls, i would say to take your your spare and do a spare tire well enclosure out of fiberglass or wood...but again, thats a bit mroe work...
