Noahkk19
I'm getting misfire codes: 543, 545 , 455, 453, 555, 553, 544, 543I was on the highway, got a check engine light...noticed a little loss of power, didn't think much of it.... then i stopped at a light and noticed the car was running rough and got progressively rougher as time passed and i got home as soon as possible. It's only really rough when I stop and accelerate from a stop. i.e. below 2500 rpm.
Noahkk19
spark plug problem only?
connorb850
I would go ahead and replace the spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and plug wires.
Noahkk19
Checked the spark plugs, the plugs for cylinders 2 and 3 were looking pretty bad. 3 had what looked to be bridge-gapping and 2 looked to be running a little too hot. COINCIDENTLY those 2 spark plugs were right next to a little oil on the block. I'm gonna replace all, and might as well check the other stuff for the hell of it. Thanks... Noahkk19
I know the spark plugs went bad, but any clue what would cause this? They're fairly new..Could the oil I found have any thing to do with it?
Noahkk19
ok, started the car after putting in brand new OEM plugs...Same codes pretty much...What's next to look into?

Chris_R
Ok, so you cleared the codes and they came right back? Same sputtering as before? If you're at home and have access to the other 850, try swapping parts like cap/rotor/coil... Maybe even ECU and see if it changes.
connorb850
Like I said earlier, you really need to replace the cap, rotor, and maybe wires. They are probably the originals from 95 and worn out.

Noahkk19
Don't know if it's smart for me to assume, but distributor cap and rotor look Darn new and very clean...So I feel like neither of those are the true problem...
Mesoam
pull the cap and check the inside ;)
Noahkk19
Very clean, but I'm going to go ahead and sand the contacts down very very very VERY slightly...As you can see it's looking new as monkey....On the rotor there is a scuff on one side of the contact, and I'm switching that with the rotor from the old 850...Can't take too many small steps I guess? ;)
Noahkk19
Same results...And a little bit higher boost pressure on idle than usual to add to my problem And this laying around at random...
ziddey
higher BOOST at idle? maybe you mean less vacuum at idle? Yeah check your vacuum hoses and elbows. listen for hissing sounds. sounds like you got a major vacuum leak. would definitely be reason for the roughness but i don't know if it's so much to cause misfires
