Hi guy's I need a little help.

I have a 2000 S80 T6, it has started cutting off sometimes. It mostly does it when I am pulling into a parking spot but sometimes at a light. It always starts right up afterwards and only does it every couple of days. I was just wandering if any of you have had or heard of this problem and what the solution was.

Thanks in advance.

I've had the same problem twice recently. Slow speed...complete stall of the engine. I noticed that the radio was not interrupted...just the engine died. I has a software upgrade a couple of months ago to correct an issue I had with warning lights that said "Emission Service Required". That problem went away but it seems a new one has replaced it. Could it be linked to the software upgrade I wonder. Have you upgraded your software recently? I have a 2000 S80 T6 too by the way.

Yes, I had the throttle module software upgrade (recall) done the first of April. My radio was not interrupted either. Have you talked with your service dept. or took your car back in?

It's going in today.

I just called my service center and they told me this has been an issue after the software download but it usually gives a service engine message. I have not got a check engine light and the service center guy advised me to drive it until I do so they can diagnose the problem. He also said the solution in most cases was to replace the throttle module or the air flow senser.

Same with me. I called the Volvo customer service - they told me the same story about the replicability of the problem. I'm sorry, I don't plan to be a beta tester of their software or whatever the problem is.

The guy at NHTSA was very interested in my story. I'm advising you to report you cases, too.

I'm hearing a replacement software download is in the works. It is likely a matter of urgency for the writers. If you are concerned about the safety of your vehicle I recommend you go to your service manager and demand a solution that is satisfactory to you. Remind them that a stalling Volvo that gets wiped out at an intersection will make the front pages pronto. Maybe your dealership has not experienced any other stalling vehicles, so ask them to contact Volvo Head Office and check on the times this is happening elsewhere. I'm sure a pattern has developed nationwide and they are trying to fix this issue.

Safety is their number 1 issue and they need to live up to that. Don't get me wrong, I love my car. I've had my fair share of problems recently but I'm lucky to have an honourable and reliable dealership. They've never left me in the lurch and hope you can get the same service from yours.

Jeez, they (Volvo, not dealers) don't care about any safety at all. They are aware of the problem, they know the risks of driving the car in the public, they know exactly which part to replace, but they won't do it without error codes. The rule is simple: no code, no warraty coverage from Volvo.
