bes4420
Well, this probably won't help your decision. My 99 S-80 transmission took a dump at 78000 miles. The repair story...well that would take awhile. Look up my posts, you'll find the story. As a person who owns a 99 S80 T6, I wouldn't buy one again. I'm stuck with the one I have...not because I can't afford to get another car, but because I'm choosing to keep this one on the road and put my money elsewhere. I do, however, have to say it's the most comfortable car. It's also very, very fast, for it's weight and size. Oddly enough, while the S80 was in the shop, I rented a car. It was a Mazda 6. It was powerful, styled very well and comfortable. I saw some Mazda 6's with some ground effects kits and chrome wheels and I do have to say, they're very appealing. I hope this helped you in your decision making. Oh yeah, BUY A GOOD EXTENDED WARRANTY!!Those that don't can look forward to a transmission bill equal to or more than the cost of the warranty. Well, here is the testimony of a S80 owner, he is comparing his S80 to Mazda6….dude he is saying that the Mazda is very comfortable as well as the S80…. Dose that tell you any thing?????????? I think you got point! I always compare my S70 to Saabs and BMW's not to any Japanese’s even a Lexus they r way off Volvos. NO OFFENSE EVERYONE

My S80, for all it's mechanical issues, is the most comfortable car I have had the pleasure of driving. Mis-quoting me to prove your point was not cool. My comment was merely intended to help someone make a decision. Don't try to further you're hate for the S80 with my comments.Bill
Nebor
An S80 is about 5x more comfortable than an S70 or 850.
turbomoose
An S80 is about 5x more comfortable than an S70 or 850.I wouldnt say that. Peace of mind speaks a lot about comfort. I myself own a '97 850 T5. It's got the REAL wood dash/console. Not that fake wood effect found on most of the S80's. Of course it has dual electronic climate. cold weather package, OEM rear sunblind, and the premium audio system with the 200w amp found in the 850R. I consider my car just as comfortable, if not more so comfortable than the S80 ONLY because of the peace of mind. The S80 isnt nearly as reliable or sturdy as an 850. Creature comfort and space the S80 is the best. Reliability, the S80 seems to be the absolute dog of the Volvo family. ;)
maximase86
I've been in an S80, and I prefer my 960 over it in terms of comfort and reliability. S

Past 2002 S80s are just as reliable as anything else. And I seriously doubt you have "real" wood in your 850. AFAIK no Volvos had real wood until last year or so. turbomoose
The 850s have real wood. Ever been to a salvage yard and seen a wrecked 850?! I've seen several dozen. Every wood dash on an 850 always has splinters. You cant get splinters from that awful looking wood effect on metal moulding that's in a lot of the S80's.
