Modus
Hey gang, I have a situation on my S70 Started a few months ago but it is getting progressivly worse as the ambeint air temperature is climbing. When driving a few miles the coolant level seems to drop to the point where the low level sensor comes on, I'll stop pull over and check the level, the level would be below the low level line. I'd open the green reservoir cap, and it would relieve the pressure and the level would be with in the limits. Seems to do this many times of the day.i bought a new reservoir cap and it doesn't seem to want to relieve the pressure.Am i missing something. do i have a blockage someplace? maybe a flush should be done....don't want to bring it down the the shop just yet. i know i should do a pressure check, i'm having trouble in locating an adapter for the cap.thanks for the help guys.Modus
jda2000
It's possible that the coolant reservoir cap is bad and leaking and not pressurizing the system well. I would replace the cap with the correct psi green cap.
Modus
I said i purchased a new one.and it still doesn't want to relieve the pressure
jda2000
Sorry, I didn't get the new cap part. The cooling system is a closed pressurized system that allows the engine to reach and maintain its optimal temp, and it won't release the pressure unless the pressure in the system is higher than the max psi on the cap. It's the temp gauge reaching 3 o'clock within 5 min after a cold start up? Is there any sippage of coolant at the bottom of the reservoir? The bottom nipple where the hose connects, is known to develop fine cracks that allows small leaks.Look for the simple quick fix
Modus
Thanks jda2000,....I think I went over it with a fine tooth comb but i'll check again..yea engine temp is good 3o'clock no problem and steady
DEWFPO
You can get a cooling system tester pretty inexpensively. It attaches to the reservoir and you pump it up to system pressure and watch the gauge, if the pressure bleeds off, you can try to track it down on the cold engine.DEWFPO
