matt1122
Okay - in my 850 T-5R I have the following audio equipment:SC-815 Headunit w/ CD Changer in TrunkStock T-5R Amplifier (4 channel, 160 Watt)Stock Front Dash SpeakersPioneer TS-A 1357 Front Door SpeakersStock Rear Door SpeakersStock Rear Deck SpeakersHere is what the specs say about the SC-815 system in a 1996 850 Platinum:SC-815 Premium Sound System, in dash CD, eight speakers, 100 wattsDoes that mean I have 100 Watts total coming out of the SC-815, and what happens to it after it hits the 4 ch 160 Watt Amp? There is only one harness used to put out to the amplifier, does that mean it is only sending out 50 watts over that harness to the amp, or is it sending all 100? If I use the other harness spot can I get the other 50 watts through it or what? Basically I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to use the stock AMP to power a small, decent quality subwoofer. What would happen if I put the Front Dash and Rear Deck Speakers on the stereo directly through the open harness, the door speakers and the sub through the amp? for example. Would there be a way maybe to set it up so I could switch (using a switch) between 4.1 speakers and 8 speakers?
Stormin Norman
Bet money that the amp output is 25 watts / channel. 4 x 25 = 100. The 160 watts is for marketing. I don't think there is an amp stage in the HU at all. I'd be curious if the stock amp can be replaced with a larger one, maybe with 5 channels to allow for a sub. Mesoam
Bet money that the amp output is 25 watts / channel. 4 x 25 = 10099.9% sure you are right Norm!

matt1122
 Even if it is 4 x 25, is that enough to power a small sub (or two for two channels, 50W a piece) if you put some of the speakers in some way off of the headunit instead of the amp? In other words, the subs run off amplifier, the four speakers run off the headunit? And what does "an amp stage in the HU" mean?

Caaine
Quite Bing: "is there a way i can take my car apart to pieces and some how reassemble it to get a v70R out of it?"Yes, there is. Very costly though, might as well purchase an R car! Regards,Caaine
Stormin Norman
Some HU have an amp within them and pre outs for an outboard amp, hence an internal amp stage. I doubt the stock HU has such a thing, can't drive speakers w/o the external amp.So the drive the speakers from the HU and subs from the amp idea just is not going to fly. Hence the idea of replacing the stock amp with a bigger one.

matt1122
Someone actually told me the SC-815 has an internal amp, but I don't believe it. Anyway, sounds like I'm sticking with what I have how I have it. I'll just try the different speakers on/off combos as suggested.
