Bing_0
i would say if you put good aftermarket 6x9s and amplify them, you will notice a more distortion free bass, but neccesarly more, quantity is what you will get, not quality. not even close to a real sub in the trunk.b
JehovArob
Ok. Well, personally, I'd probably be happy with that. I only need bass that I can hear/feel inside the car. Don't really want to be able to make people I'm passing by feel it, too.

Dan 850Turbo Wagon
Okay well these are all good ideas but I don't want to speand that much money. I just put some infinity 5 1/4 speakers in the front doors and now I want to change the rear door speakers. What size do I need and what should I be looking for. Is there really a problem with a speaker that is 4 ohms vs. a speaker that is 8 ohms. If so which do I need and where can I find something like this. What is a decent speaker for this. Lewis
←I was wondering, did you do those yourself (the kicks)? If so, do you actually mold plastic yourself? Man, that's something I'd love to know how to do 'cause I'm always modifying everything myself and plastic is one thing I never tried.P.S. Sorry for the english, I'm from Quebec City up in Canada... What is a decent speaker for this.←Dan, if you 850 turbo has the same doors than my 850 GLT N/A, then you need 5.25 in the rear too, very easy to install, it fits perfectly. Oh yeah, in the rear doors, the oem speakers are glued to a plastic cover that seems to protect it from water (maybe, not sure). I took the whole thing out, plastic thing and speaker and just drilled new holes to put my aftermarket speakers. I used Alpine 5.25 which cost me 120 CND so maybe like 5 bucks US... Concerning 8 ohms and 4 ohms. It changes power output. V=RI here R is the resistance in ohms, V is a variable 0-12 volts from your amplifier, I is in Amps from your amplifier. Also, P=VI so P=RI^2 here P is power in Watts which is what we're looking for. All of this means the lower the impedance (overall resistance), the more demanding on the amplifier but also this means more output from your speaker. This is the reason why so many car speaker manufaturers make 4 ohms speakers because all cars have 12 volts outputs. So you can go with 4 ohms. Evidently, this will ask more of your amplifier which in return means more heat which is no good but since they're made to handle the heat, go for it.That was pretty crude and basic but heck, didn't want to bring the differentials out... Bing_0
everyhting on my site was made by my own hands i didnt intend for this post to be the ONLY way to get good sound...its merely for those, who has some money, intend to get as good of a sound quality from their car as possible under a reasonable budget (under 2 grand total)...b
bogelo
Volvo Original stock headunit and speakers are already awesome. Don't try to change it if you don't have enough $$$, IMHO. It's just impossible to beat them if you don't spend tons of money. Your setup can be louder, YES, but louder doesn't mean it is more clear/richer than stocks. My setup is now good enough to beat the hell out of volvo stocks. Yes I spent a hell out of $$$.Click here for my audio setup

But I bet i can achieve the same sound quality if no higher for about 1500 total cost...one of my main points was that in our cars, if you really want sound quality, you wouldnt use stock locations... bogelo
$1500 for HU, amps, & speakers? I think $1500 is a big money. My system costs much less than that (but without the HU).Music taste differs from people to people. Some people like it loud, some people like it rich and I like it rich. Well, Im sure there are a lot of good SQ amps & speakers out there (but they are also expensive), such as: PPI art amp, PG amps, nakamichi amps, diamond audio M6 speakers (decent, but a lil bit 2 sharp 4 me), etc. At least I know I get the adequate equipments to produce high quality sounds.I guess the stock location is okay but I haven't tried to place it anywhere else. I'm just lazy to put my speaker other than the stock location (it's a hassle you know ). I just want to know whether the speakers from stock locations can sound better or not. Fortunately they can sound better and that's enough for me.All I want to point out to people is that volvo' stock sound system is good (it is somewhere between SQL and SPL). Don't try to change it if you don't use "good stuff" coz good stuff costs a lot of money (at least $500 for 1 new component speaker system and a 4-ch used amp and yes $500 is expensive for me).Peace. Bing_0
hehe i was referring to retail cost, and i know the retal cost of your units are over 1500 if we are talking about ebaying, or used or net sales, then i can safely say that I can put togehter a system for less than 600 that will sound great as for the volvo stock system, I wouldnt call it anyhting even related to spl or sq or sql, its just plain STOCK...one of the less impressive stock systems i have heard, i am referring ot the ones that comes in 850s of course, no the newer ones wiht dynaudio drivers b

Volvo stock is also better compared to stock bmw e36.
Bing_0
heheh bose, you mean "better sound through advertising?" haha well, its not bad, I have heard worse, but i have heard better too, to me, the stock volvo 850 system is just a run of the mill stock system...however, what doesnt impress me is that the locations and sizes of the stock location is one of the worst on the market for expansion...in other words, our stock loations suck for upgrading to a great sounding system heheb

It's so weird they put 5.25 in fronts, 6.5 on the rear door and 5x7 in the rear deck.I wish the front speakers can be upgraded to 6.5 without doing anything but unfortunately it's a-no-go. I didn't know the new volvos are using dynaudio. I really want Dynaudio!!!, especially the 3-way separate component speakers but all money had been spent on the amp . theunderlord
heheh bose, you mean "better sound through advertising?" haha b←bing you're a smart guy.... i've been trying to convice people about "better sound through advertising" for what seems like forever. There's a great little article in this months popular science about "stock" car systems... nothing ground breaking, but if more people understood "stock" systems... they'd all have better sound. If you really want to get frustrated... go over to swedespeed and look though thier "audio" forum.... its a joke.
