exexpat
STEALING THE THREADHow can u aligne the speakers in the kickpods? Also would kickpods remove the problem of my highs being smeared all over(to the point of becoming high pitched noise)?thank you.←By looking at the components in your thread, I would imagine that there are lots of highs and duplication in the mid range. Kick panels actual make sense in our cars, for mine I was just seeing if I could get it to image properly, given that it was tonally balanced from the factory. In your case, it looks to me like you have a heavy rear stage. I would start by removing the rear channel altogether as well as the dash/door speakers. You can probably put the Sony 6.5" from the rear into the kick panels. I would mount them ala BMW 3 series location above the ridge on the side floors. Angle the driver side speaker so it fires at the passenger side headrest and viceversa. Once you get those mounted, listen to only those 2 speakers on their own merits and determine whether a rear channel is needed at all. A rear channel does have a tendency to elevate the soundstage if you determine that yours is low, however depending on the (lack of) attenuation of the rear channel, it can bring your stage to the rear of the car and muddy the imaging. Ideally you want the voices to sound as if they are eminating from the center of your car's hood and the pure left and right signals should sound like they go out beyond the confines of the A-Pillars.Once you tune in the mids, the subwoofer and the subwoofer and bass is always the easy part. I like sealed small enclosures with 12" woofers (as opposed the baffle it sounds like you have). JL w0, older Pioneer freeair and older Kicker Comp woofers sound decent in a baffle, if you need to stick to that format.
highhighs
Thanks for the kickpod tips this is the next i'll do when i have time.I dont have any speakers in the back of the car i moved the 6.5" to the front door and i have the 4" speakers in the dash(with -3 level setting). i guess the multiple tweeters in the front are damaging the highs. but without the 4" the level would be low. banksie312
i had a question mostly about the kickboxes(and a little about speakers)kick boxes have gotten good AND bad reviews and obviously it is all opinionthe kick boxes obviously go in passenger side (they will have to adjust) and the drivers sidethe only problem with the drivers side for me is that i have a 5spd and i wanted to know if an aftermarket kick box would either get in the way of the clutch, OR leave me with no room to rest my leg while not using the clutch?also, the 4x75 watt amp that you said would be the best way to go, which speakers would that power?thanks
gr8gatzby
my favorite sound systems have been the factory Bose units I've had in various cars, the Jetta Monsoon is a close second. Is it possible to install a bose system in my '00 XC, and if not, what should i buy that would equal the clarity of the Bose? and if at all possible i'd like to keep my factory head unit, i really like the way it flows with the dash....and the cassette player is dandy too. Bing_0
well, we all have different opinions and taste, my personal one has never liked bose, in our shop, we have a saying, no highs? no lows? its gotta be bose! its not saying that they dont have highs or lows, but, like a lot of thse system, they tend to make the lows very distorted and boomy casue they try to make too small of a speaker produce too low of a sound, and the highs are usually jacked and not smooth so its begins to sound harsh at moderate volumes...i still say if you follow the formula i listed, it will sound 10 times better than bose and monsoon. now a good stock system IMO would be the nakamichi or mark levison system in lexus, and the dynaudio system in later gen volvos, but i sthink they still can be improved upon b

BigBlueSpeakerDude
There is another option for head unit that retains your factory appearance. JL and Rockford Fosgate both have a fairly new product that uses the factory HU as a source and both have very good processing for sound quality that rivals most high-end HUs, in particular the 3sixty.2 by from Rockford Fosgate. These products, however are a little more pricey than a mid-line head unit and require the use of amplifiers. I would also recommend always replacing the factory speaker cables with better aftermarket cable. The factory cables are simply to small for a decent signal transfer. This inexpensive addition makes a bigger difference than you would think. One more thing...If you are unhappy with bass frequencies above 60 Hz, then try porting the rear deck. You can cover the hole with factory matching carpet and it will go unnoticed.
