Rough Start

Recommended Posts

My S70 T5 starts up rough whenever I cold start it, and it seems to be getting worse... any sort of phenomena that would explain this? Additionally, what would it cost to have my rear bumper repainted?

What do you mean, rough start? Cranks longer, then starts, starts right away, but runs rough, takes several cranks, does lines of crank, we need specifics.

Try reving the engine for about six or seven minutes getting the tachometer up to about 2600 rpm. If it steadily gets quieter and less rumbly (when it goes back into an idle) than most likely it's a fuel injector problem. Drive it around for a few minutes and if it gets nice and quiet when you let it idle at a standstill than you can be sure it's an injector problem. Either clean it out w/ a good fuel system/injector cleaner like lucas or pay for new injectors.

It starts right away but the start up itself is rough (instead of turning right over the steering wheel vibrates and you can feel it throughout the car.) It idles fine and drives fine, the engine just starts roughly. I'll try the cleaner and if that doesnt work Ill have to try some of these other suggestions...

How are all your motor / tranny mounts?

So it's the actual cranking that's rough and nothing else?

Also, I'm curious about the cost for back bumper as well, and also front one. Anyone have ideas?

Dirty IAC or and/or throttle body?

What does the acronym IAC stand for? How would one go about cleaning the throttle body? I am going to assume that is the fuel injectors of course, because that is the most dire of circumstances, and then must ask: how much is that going to run me?

So I went ahead and bought an injector cleaner and now I just have to drive through a tank of gas to find out if that works. If it doesnt, how can I tell if its a bad injector, and how can I identify which one it is? Does anyone have an image or directions that can show me how to identify one? Will it be obvious if it is a leaking injector? How do I go about cleaning my throttle body? I have searched and can't find any old threads, so I really appreciate all the help...!
