Ran the Nevada Open Road Challenge last weekend and had a great time. since I was running in one of the fastest classes I had time to wander around at the start line and see some of the other cars. While I was wandering around I ran into this little gem. iPD tuned and suspended S70. The driver (Ursula) and her husband were making the team effort in the 135mph average speed class with a 168mph tech speed (speed you can not exceed). the roll cage it all bolt in so after the race they can take it out for general driving around town.

More pictures can be seen HERE from the event. I ran in the 170mph average speed class navigating for my buddy in his corvette. We ended up winning the class averaging 170.03mph. Cruising speeds over the course of the run were 185-200mph.

Nice find. Didn't that used to be called the Silver State something? Or maybe it is a different one. Similar setup with the class speeds. If I remember correctly, in the last 5-10 miles you can't be more than 10% away from your target average right?

the Nevada Open Road Challenge is the Silver State Classic Challenge except its just run in May. The SSCC is run in Sept. Both events are put on by the same group. You can cross the finish line about as fast as you want as long as you dont exceed your tech speed and as long as you dont drop under 20mph below your target speed. If you do, you are considered a hazard on the road because of the excessive closer rates by other cars. The goal is to be as close to your target speed as possible. We crossed the finish line around 180mph even though we were targeting 170mph. this was because there is a section called the "Narrows" that runs through a canyon that you have to be real careful going through. So to make up for the lost time in the Narrows, we had to hot foot it the rest of the way. Even though we went through the canyon at 125mph. The posted speed limit through that area is 50mph if that tells you how tight it is.

I've been up to around 165-170mph but only for a few moments in a 2002 996TT. I did not dare take my eyes off the road for long. I have alot of respect for you and your nerves for a sustained high speed like that. You got balls dude!
