I need to go rent that (like this week). Any way my favorite is probably Patton, even though the movie made him to look like a bad guy.

Transformers or red dawn

screw it rent both

The Great Raid is a good one. A bridge to far. Memphis Belle, M*funny*H, The Bridges at Toko-Ri, Pork Chop Hill, Retreat, Hell!

, We Were Soldiers, Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill, Courage Under Fire.

Rangers lead the way ;)

But blackhawk down sucked. Book was way way more accurate.

Yes and No. Lee VanArsdale is an old friend. It is very hard to capture the intensity of a single day's combat in a 2h movie. The gamut of experiences and emotions are too intense. I think BHD displayed the issues of courage in the face of fear, loyalty to Comrades, and the sheer skill of the American soldier as well as any being made today. It wasn't 'patriotic': it was sympathetic to the plight of a soldier fighting a difficult mission. ANd it highlighted just how sycophantic American policy had gotten in the 1990s.

ABove all the movie highlighted (like BoB) the value of decisisve leadership, and the cost of hesitation.

The book, along with Mike Durant's "In the Company of Heroes" are keepers. The music alone from BoB is haunting.

Yes, I am an old soldier. I imagine it shows. Nothing is more important than my Comrades. Mission 1st, Men Always.

Great in sentiment, sucky in accuracy. The movie not you. I agree it captured the moments well, but I hate seeing people preaching its events like gospel.

Good to see some still believe in this mans army.

To true. Sadly, most believe the movie is 'documentary'. Mark Bowden did a fabulous job, and I don't think any movie could come close.

Another favorite:

We Were Soldiers Once (and Young). I read the book years ago when GEN Moore led a leadership forum discussion at my Advance Course (Armor). We were spell-bound. The movie is another 'close', but until you've been shot at and missed, you can have NO idea.

I believe:

Duty, Honor, Country

USMA 1975

Ranger Class 12-75
