Sirius, Xm, Others?

I've been pondering satellite radio recently. Any opinions would be great. Also pics of mounting points in 850's would be great (I was thinking in the ash tray with a little modding?). What does the antenna look like, is it absurdly obvious?

I have a kenwood sirius mounted in my dash underneath my Alpine deck. I took one of those black 1din plastic covers that you see on unused sections of wall at places like Circuit City or Ultimate Electronics. I used a dremel to cut the inside out and hot glued the car docking kit to the back of the panel so I can just slide in and out the here2anywhere unit right out of the dash.

As far as the antenna it is pretty small, maybe 4x4in with a tail and about an inch or so high, although I have seen some very very small antennas now from XM that are only about 2x2 and 0.5in high. I mounted mine on the trunk. You can also have it set on your dash and it will work fine, just as long as it can see sky, and the glass won't really change the reception at all.

Also one last note, that plastic tail I was talking about (about 6in long) NEVER EVER EVER EVER TRY TO CUT THOSE LITTLE BLACK PLASTIC BLOCKS TO TRY AND GET IT TO FIT BETTER. You will damage the antenna as it's not protected under there. Learned this the hard way (on Circuit City's tab :P )

You can use the stock HU but you have to buy a Blitzsafe connector to fool the HU into thinking it has a changer. (If you have a changer already they won't work together). Just push the changer button and it will play.

I have the Sirius Audiovox player that I installed in the ashtray area, I removed the ashtray and mounted it behind the ODBII connector. Easy to see and easily accessible, although I most times use the remote for safety. The antennae is installed on the roof back by the tailgate (97 T5 Wagon) and I ran the wire along the headliner then down the driver's door and up under the dash.

I love it so far, plus the automatic volume control still works and it all looks stock. On other cars I would usually just install a new HU but on this car, to me, it seems that it just isn't necessary, plus you would lose the auto volume feature. which I like.

I'll try to get some pics this weekend and post them for you to see.

XM and Sirius do not like trees or other obstuctions to the sky in the Redwoods it cuts in and out it cuts out in tunnels also. My buddy and I are trying both I have had the Sirius box for a a few months now some of the comedy is a riot.... and consistently good music on other channels Sirius has all the sports games XM has less sports games live.

Yeah i do have a changer and i love it. Is there any other way you know of? How is the sound? CD quality?

Unfortunately I don't know of a different input for the stock HU that will allow both CD changer and aux to work at once. below is the site. Below that, a summary.

Note: A CD changer can not be used in conjunction with the VOL/AUX DMX V.1 auxiliary input converter.

I believe dr lava sells one that will allow you to interface it and keep the changer and his was pretty cheap (Like 50 or 60 and he had some nifty features)
