What Do You Guys Think Of These Wheels?

Yeah I don't know much about centerline. I doubt I will be able to break a forged wheel but I guess you never know. They did cover the wheels when something went wrong didn't they t5bandit?

They refunded the full cost of the wheels plus the cost of mounting and balancing of the tires from the Centerlines to my new wheels.

If that is the case you are convicing me to buy centerline. Not only should they be strong as hell but the company will refund the wheels plus pay to get the tires remounted if there is a problem. Sounds like they had some good customer service even if they had some shitty wheels.

I would like to note the below is my experience with my set of Centerlines. I do realize several people on this board have had Centerlines with no problems. Also realize that my wheels were 19", not the typical 17 or 18, so that could be a factor. :D

Well, they really had no choice but to give a full refund and, without going into detail, the customer service wasn't that great. I purchased and picked up the wheels directly from Centerline in Santa Fe Springs, Ca. The owner claimed that even though the wheels were rated at 1200 lbs. max per wheel, and that they should have never been sold for a Volvo because my car was too heavy for them (2 of the crack wheels were always on the rear, definitely not 1200 lbs per wheel in the rear). That being said, the fact that 3 of the wheels had multiple cracks was an extreme liability for Centerline had one of those wheels shattered while driving the car, especially when they have a lifetime structure warranty on the wheels.

I had probably been driving around on the cracked wheels for sometime without even knowing. The only reason it was discoverd was because a crack in one the wheels got bad enough to where the tire was leaking air. I can tell you I would much rather have a street wheel bend than crack. At least if my wheel had a bend, I know and it is not a safety concern. With a crack especially mulitple cracks, if one of those wheels shatters while driving 70 mph on the freeway, I put myself or others around me in danger when my 3000+ lb car has the potential to loose control. God forbid if my daughter or wife is my car as well.

I have worked in aluminum forging. The cause would be either: 1) Centerline cuts corners in the heat treat process, therefore allowing the aluminum to become so hard that aluminum has no give and can crack with even slight impact, or 2) there was some material or manufacturing defect with that set of wheels. No way to know unless I sent one the wheels to be analyzed to determine. Either way Centerline was willing to refund the cost of the wheels and get the wheels back as quickly as possible.

Hm... thanks for sharing that info T-5. I ordered a set of 17" Storms and just received them a few days ago. I guess I'll keep an eye on them, and hope that with a 45 series tire will provide a bit more protection.

A bit of info for the OP, the wheels I ordered were considered custom even though they list the Storm wheel for volvo vehicles. They had to "build" them, and it took about 3 weeks for them to get them to my door. And thats only living about 75 miles from their factory.

by the way T-5, I"m fairly certain I saw your V70 rolling down the 23 freeway a few months back. A white V70 on 19's is hard to miss lol

I am sure with 17s and a 45 series tire you should be fine. Again, my situation may have been isolated or due to the size of the wheel. I believe the Monsoon series are also a better manufactured wheel.

3 weeks actually isn't that bad for Centerline. Because the wheels are manufactured in-house in Santa Fe Springs, they don't typically carry a large stock of uncommon lug patterns, therefore they were made to order. It is pretty rare to find an American wheel manufacturer that still makes their wheels in the states, forged or cast, due to production costs. Centerline and Weld are of only a few of American companies that still manufacture their wheels in the states. Most companies manfacturer the wheels in Taiwann, then distribute in the states.

Lol... that would have been me you saw on the 23. I use to take it daily when I was working in Agoura Hills, commuting from Santa Clarita. :D I definitely don't miss that daily commute.
