Installing An Extra Oil Cooler (e.g. Mocal)

Thats what I would do, and thats what I did. Bought a better, bigger aftermarket one and just ran the one. One is probably plenty (a fairly large one), plus it keeps things simple.

I would imagine that you either have oil cooler lines that come out of the motor, OR (more likely) they come off a block off the oil filter. Use adapters and just run fresh braided lines from there (if its like my car, and it probably is, the threads for the adapters are 16X1.5MM) to the biggest oil cooler you can find/fit.

i think there are two points why u should consider the max size of ur cooler carefully. first: u might see some pressure drop in ur oil pressure. second: ur oil being too cold.

if you have a thermostat that connects the extra/ big cooler to the oil circluation then its alright. if you run the big cooler or with a big extra cooler during daily road use ur oil always stays too cool or at least takes ages to heat up. that this is not good for ur engine is quite obvious.

but asfaik the 850 Turbos have such a thermostat for the orig oil-in-water-cooler. So i thought of simply putting the extra cooler in line. and if i do so, the queation is different one: put the new cooler before or after the orig oil cooler, i.e. inlet or outlet side?

by the way the aftermarket adapter u put between block and oil filter doesnt work on the 850. the oil filter would stick out at the bottom is likely to be torn off.

there is a german site for racing parts. pretty nice by the way.

SANDTLER

then click on "Ölkühler" at the bottom and click thru the menu for the different parts belonging to the oil cooler system.

thanks for all the help.
