Silly Dealership Stories

The dealership that my brother and I use for service is pretty good. We get parts and labor discounts and they always make sure to clean my car when I go to pick it up. It's pretty cool because I know which mechanics work on my car and since they know my car personally, including the upgrades, it makes getting work done much easier.

"Sir, you serpentine belt is showing slight signs of cracking due to age and/or use. We recomend you replace it as soon as is possible so as to avoid the belt breaking and losing all of your accessoriee and being stuck on the road..."

"how much is that to do right now?"

"It would be about $219.00 plus the cost odf the belt"

...i thoguht it was funny anyway..

not so much dealer story, but an alignment shop story:

"what kind of car is that...there ain't no letterz on it?"

"its a V70R AWD..."

"Ok....."

the alignment values on an R have to be better than an XC :)

My former dealership itemised my one service. They included +- $8 for car wash, and $3 for hand wash. So i ask them what's up with that, surely when i've just spent $1000+ for a new turbo + cam service that a free wash is in order, especially when they've had the car for 2 weeks.

They're ccol with that, and deduct it, and come back with the bill, but there's still 'hand wash and consumables'. So again, what consumables ... they can't answer ... and then I told them that my car didn't have hands, so i wasn't paying for the handwash.

My new dealership, phones me and asks me how many hours labour they should charge me before the draw up the bill.

I just had a good one about10 min ago...the cars at the dealer for a 60,000 mile service.

60K service: $698.00

then they suggested I need a coolant replacement and thermostat replacement: $220.00

then they suggested I so a trans fluid replacement: $125.00

those freekin stamps in the maintenance book are getting expensive... <_<

Rod, Rod, Rod... you should really dig into some of this stuff yourself to save some coin :)

my friend came to me with her new VW passat, its time for the 40,000 mile service she says. Then she starts bitching about how the dealer quoted her at $656.00 to do it. I pull out the maintaince book and notice the only thing requring parts is the oil change, everything else is just "check to specifications".... what a load of crap

i just want to get the dealer stamp so I can say 'dealer serviced' if I ever have to sell the car...

i told them not to touch the tires, no oil change, and no car wash...just the 60k lookover.

I have another from a salesman.

"So I'm looking to see if the 2.5T S60 ever came in a manual transmission, do you know if it does?"

The sales guy (I'll call him Chaz) says, "I'm not sure, I'd have to look it up. I know we have a 2.4T on the lot."

"Well I am looking to get the 2.5 since it's the same block as the R and it's a good starting place to upgrade" I said.

He looks stunned and asks, "Why not just get an R, those things are monsters? We have several on the lot to choose from."

"Well Chaz, I don't feel like spending that much on an R when I could probably build a 2.5 and make more power than the R has while not having to worry about when the Haldex will give out. The R is a nice car but being in FL means AWD is not as much of a necessity and I don't want a 30% + drivetrain lose for no particular reason."

To that Chaz replies, "I've never heard of anyone having transmission problem. An R makes 300hp, you couldn't drive a car with that much hp and not have AWD. These things have so much torque you couldn't keep it on the road."

LOL, thats almost as good as a Volvo rep at the Miami Beach Car show saying that all the turbochargers are made by Volvo in the factory, and to move over to the side of the road if you ever see the dreaded s60R coming up behind you, you just cant keep up with a monster like the s60R!

And for my dealership story, I went in to do the recall for the gas tank heat shield, about 10 minutes after I dropped the car off, while in the waiting room, the service manager came up to me, looked down at his clipboard, then look at me again with a puzzled look and said "You vehicle does not seem to have a uh...(looks down at clipboard) catalytic converter installed. To which i replied, sure it does, see it says Mangnaflow on it :D They said that mods like that do void any recalls but they were kind enough to do it anyways. I also noticed a little crowd around the engine bay when they popped the hood for whatever reason.

So if you mod to car to be illegal for road use, recalls can still be applied to the vehicle?

You could pull in with a fully modified drag car, and a slong as the existing part that they're replacing is still there, they have to do the recall. Cause now matter what else you do to the car, if that part fails, and they refused to do the recall, Channel 4 will be at their door.
