Silly Dealership Stories

You could pull in with a fully modified drag car, and a slong as the existing part that they're replacing is still there, they have to do the recall. Cause now matter what else you do to the car, if that part fails, and they refused to do the recall, Channel 4 will be at their door.

Yup... Look up the Magnusson-Moss Act. Mention it to the service advisor next time they try to deny you warranty/recall work.

Joseph has it on his car, along with the part number, he can help you out.

Eric, Xavier, and I have tried cross-referencing that part # to no avail, it ended up coming up as a sport suspension accessory... however no longer able to be purchased. BTW SH8KDWN, if you're going to Borton/Maroone volvo... treat those parts guys right!! Eric and Xavier are the best, you should be getting some kind of discount. :D

Back in January '05, I was searching for Pegs (pre-Volvospeed), and no matter what I said, the dealer told me that they WOULDN'T bolt up to my car, period... I laughed.

At least they didn't say they'll only bolt up if you have the R's brakes. ;)

One of the clips that holds in my grill bent out of place when a valet tapped my car into a wall. When I took it to volvo my service guy wasnt there, and someone else helped me. He looked at the grill and it was hanging out a little bit, then told me that theres no way volvo could fix that and that i'd have to have a body shop remove the entire front end of the car to get to the grill...he told me he "estimate(s) atleast a grand in body work".

When I got home I managed to force the grill back into place and now its fine..

Nice stories. I'm sure there are more to come. Thanks for pinning this.

Stories from my Subaru days:

#1

I bought a Subaru off lease in '98. I drove it for about 6 months and I noticed that the transmission started to chatter when I took sharp turns. Of course the factory warranty had expired by now and my greatest fears were soon confirmed by my Dealership. They said the transmission had serious problems and that they could save it but woul dhave to replace the clutch packs and other assorted parts to the tune of $3,500.

I decided to drive up to a different dealer that everyone said did great work. I talked to the service manager who said they might be right BUT sometime the gear oil in the AWD system is quite thick and if I put a transmission fluid additive that GM made in it might help. $5.99 later and several figure 8s in the parking lot i never had a problem again.

#2

A different Subaru with electronic height control (raises the car over an inch with a push of the button) started to bounce in the rear. No independent shop would touch the shocks because of this annoyingly complex system so I had no choice but to bring it to the dealer. The service manager came up to me with an estimate, $3,000 and we have to replace your entire suspension, we have problems with these models. While I was in utter disbelief I wandered down to the service bay and talked to the tech. I asked him what I was supposed to do with the car. He looked at me puzzled and said, "What are you talking about? The rear tire had a slow leak and it threw off the electronic suspension. As soon as we put the car on a lift it self corrects. I just took it for a spin, it works fine. I haven't even sent a report to the service manager for your car."

I had the parts guy at the same dealership refuse to make me a copy of my key. He told me "volvo keys are made outta steel and don`t ever break, goto a lock smith and have them cut you one"

i'm definitely not 100%, but i thought you can't cut the volvo keys?

I dont' see why not, but was told that you'd have to get them from sweden

a locksmith with a good setup can cut you anything.... had a few Lexus cars go missing once....Volvo keys are easier for them to cut.
