Matts 850 GLT
HelloHave been looking at various cars for sale. Found a nice 95 855n/a. Anyway it comes fully dealer serviced at 78,000 miles. One owner. I checked the dealer who had serviced it to verify its history and yes they have kept it serviced. Great.Question. At 60,000 mile service I thought they would change the coolant (every 30,000miles or 2years)? They don't. The aftersales manager said 'they only do whats necessary'. There is a note by the service manager on the service sheet 'recommend changing coolant'!!!!So, go figure, what else needs doing????Anyway the car is great but I will get my own indy to service it, at least then I know it is correctly looked after.Matt

Matts 850 GLT
no turbo? No! and it shows... most turbo wagons are well over 150,000 miles with dubious service history. I need something for my wife to drive with the kids in. I might look for a subaru evo6. Matt
Mr. Norm
Flush the tranny fluid. The dealer will tell you it never needs to be done, they also get to sell new trannies to folks.

I got it at 7 years old so the first radiator lasted less than 7 years. Maybe they never changed the coolant.

rodrigo
I just had a good one about10 min ago...the cars at the dealer for a 60,000 mile service.60K service: $698.00then they suggested I need a coolant replacement and thermostat replacement: $220.00then they suggested I so a trans fluid replacement: $125.00those freekin stamps in the maintenance book are getting expensive... ...and they mentioned nothing of the cracked serpentine belt they noticed when I went in for an ETM upgrade...and I have not changed it...I guess it fixed itself? take it to an independant mechanic that is familiar with Volvo's and their maintenance schedules and flip off the dealer everytime you drive by...with a smile of course. yes, im bitter when it smells burned or, loses that pinkish red color.i dont thinkit should go more than 30k without a change regardless???
Matts 850 GLT
I know...So why get the car serviced when all they do is tell you what needed and charge you for it? What is the point of a service schedule when the dealers don't follow it?m

rodrigo
My ignition leads have a date '1995' printed on them. Original, even after 11 years they still work i think the OEM ignition components have been seen to surpass 100k with no problems at all...that is distributor, rotor, leads...not that I would do that.Genuine Volvo Service - 850 series 1995-1997Every 10,000 miles:Oil Filter & Engine Oil: Replacethats nuts. i guess it depends ont he oil and the type of driving, or someone who smaples oil...etc. i check my oil every week, change it every 3k.
