96PlatinumEdition850
Okay, the check engine light came on yesterday when I went out for a quick ride. I had shortened the actuator arm by two twists of the nut. Today I went to Advanced Auto Parts and borrowed their OBD-II scanner and got the following codes--P1310Ignition System or MisfireP0301Cylinder 1Misfire DetectedP0305Cylinder 5Misfire DetectedP0300Random/MultipleCylinderMisfire Detected--So it looks like I have 2 misfires and I was wondering exactly what I do to solve this little problem of mine?Replace spark plugs is first on my list since I have no clue when they were last replaced since I've only owned the car for about 5 months and put about 9K miles on it. The car doesn't seem to run any rougher but maybe that's because it's being running a little rough all along. The spark plug wires were replaced 9K miles ago when I first got the car just so you know.Any help would be apprectiated.-Jeff
prasamin
go with plugs, cap, and rotor to start.if that doesn't work, then it's time to try wires.
MadeInJapan
If you haven't checked, I'd look at the plugs. Maybe they used some weird off brand plugs. Our cars don't like them. Stay with Bosch copper or Volvo OEM plugs. Next check the wires. Bosch wires are known to cause such problems. Switch to Bougicord it the plugs are not OEM. Good luck and keep us posted. TM850R
Most people are running a gap between .025 - .028 for a gap. .028 is stock and seems to work for most people.
96PlatinumEdition850
Sounds good thank you. Is there a reason people use Copper rather than Platinum Bosch plugs?

PorBleemo
better for turbo applications and high boost Although the board census is that you should change them every oil change for best performance. So the downside is short life but the practical upshot is more POWAH!!!

So the downside is short life but the practical upshot is more POWAH!!! they're about $1 a piece, no big loss. One reason that even though OEM's work well, I'd rather just use the coppers
96PlatinumEdition850
Okay well I leave for the Ocean on Tuesday(my birthday) but I'll still be posting because the condo I'm staying in has cable internet. I'll have the cars oil changed and the spark plugs replaced with Bosch Coppers and I'll let you guys know what the hell are in the there now cause I have no clue. I guess I feel the misfire a little tonight as I was driving while I was lightly on the gas it would stutter a little in first gear it feels like it's shifting gears but it's not.P.S. Who sells Coppers because it seems like they don't even advertise them on Bosch's website so I'm not sure if they are slim pickings or any place sells them? MadeInJapan
The reasons give below are some of the reasons, but there was quite a lot of posts on different forums about problems with the Bosch Plat's. Uneven firing was one of the issues, but I read about some people having trouble with the breaking off of the porcelain material into the engine. That's something I want to avoid at all costs. RussB
That many misfire codes makes me think you got the plugs, wires and/or cap wet... Factory Volvo turbo plugs are platinum's. They work great.
