Bilstein Hd Or Koni...

Recommended Posts

honestly, its kind of like switching from winter tires to summer tires. i still have stock suspension, but i know when i switch from my winter tires 16" to my 17 inch summers, its like im riding a bicycle but then you get used to it... i figure once you upgrade you will notice it very much first but will get used to it because you will be able to hit corners so much harder and smoother. also, i love how all of you with these HD's who love them live in areas where there are no frost heaves, try driving in and out of Boston every day, 10 bucks says you guys would not enjoy HD's with lowering springs on either 17's or 18's, the roads here are garbage :P

you lose $10. but it is a matter of taste.

HDs are great..had them for 5 years on my car. I've used 15" (snow steelies), 16", and currently 17" wheels. Much more solid handling than stock. I have the stock springs. I would say the best improvement to the suspension came when I installed qbricks endlinks last summer. I avoid potholes. If you have crappy roads you may not like them, but I try to avoid those roads...the 850 has a stiff suspension to begin with..I don't think any strut/shock combo's going to help you a whole lot on this car if your roads suck.

like all suspensions the sum total ride combines bushings, shocks, springs, anti-sways, end-links, wheels, tires, load balancing, etc... oh and taste :) i happen to like the HD's with the rest of my setup very much. you might too! one thing i would suggest would be to consider changing your strut tower mounts if you have any significant milage on your car; ~100k miles. my story was i replaced the struts with Bilstein HD's and a week or two later busted through my tower mount. so if you're putting stiffer parts in consider changing the more vulnerable parts of your suspension at the same time.

good luck! hope you enjoy the ride!

edit: i would also like to add that my might have been unpopular upgrade or something, as when i ordered the shocks/strut the lead time was about a month; they had to schedule and build a new lot. so if you decosion also includes install time ask for a delivery quote. that would go for everyone else that would be ordering them new. but you're getting your directly from Kevin, so you shouldn't have a problem.

Wow, I really hope I dont bust my mounts  Ive got about 70k and it has been taken care of so I think that things should hold up pretty well. I will have to buy a set of rears, but if they are back ordered I think I will just get them off ebay. Anyone ever try HD's +TME springs on an S70 with perfos?

Guys,

I just ordered Koni FSD shocks and struts from www. suspensiononline for $632.10....free shipping

Good buy bilsteins

On the Swedespeed forums, a guy with a S60 2.5T blew out a strut mount on the roads here in Toronto (which are getting better but are overall crap). He finds that they absorb small bumps great but big bumps are a bit jarring. That swayed me to the Koni FSDs since I've heard nothign but good thigns.. downfall is that they are made for stock springs and ppl have bottomed out when really lowered. TME springs should be AOK.

It's tough finding the fine balance between everyday driver and overall performer.

I'll give my $0.02 here as I usually do in these threads. This HAS been beaten to death about 1000x already. HDs are stiff as heck. If you don't mind a really stiff, feel every bump ride and/or live where the streets are perfect then you will be ok. On the autox track I liked the HDs very well. On the drive to work they sucked a$$. Not to mention they raise your car about an inch. So in effect you are puting on a 1" lift kit. With HDs and stock springs you will have significant fender gap.

I went with Koni adjustables and SAM springs. This is a much more compliant setup than HDs. It isn't perfect, but it is a much more tolerable ride. I'd consider the Weitech as well because that is a good buy and seems to have good reviews.

I wonder just how many have tried more that one suspension set-up in their car <_<

I've tried three ;) Eibach/ TCs on my first 850(stolen) sucked/ Eibach and koni(too soft even on full stiffness) and currently have HDs with HR springs and 18s with 35series and i absolutely love the ride and believe me the roads are far from perfect around here (anyone at the last MD meet can back me up on that)

I also know a bunch of people who have tried multiple setups on their cars...mind giving any feedback on the suspensions you've tried?

cali roads are not a an ice rink either. best roads in the u.s. imo are nevada (personally), and wyoming (cj). best roads ever? japan.

you should try hd´s, fds is the same thing, i really like the T5 with stock springs and hds

s60 has quite a different feel than the 850 in terms of ride quality.

Depends on if you want to handle nice, or drag race better. I have the HD's along with Vogtland 1.4" springs. The front is progressive and rear is not, and the rear is higher and stiffer than the front.

I can brake torque to 2000 RPM on street tires on a drag and have zero wheel hop every time. Even spinning out is not that bad. This setup helps keep the weight on the front tires well.

I am unhappy with the handling though. But, it is nothing some QBM control arms and end links can't fix. Then, I will have the best of both worlds.
