Blinking Up Arrow After Installing Bov

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I installed my Greddy RS BOV on the top intercooler pipe between the top intercooler pipe elbow and the plastic hose. I disconnected the radiator fans and all above the rubber intercooler pipe inorder to take the elbow off and then I installed the BOV. Then I go to remove the CBV which is in a tight spoy and got one of the screws off and then I started to lose light. I light tightened the second bolt I was starting to get off and then I put the 1st screw in nice and tight and decided I'd work on it in the morning. I went to start the car to move it by the garage and it wouldn't start. I tried for about 3 times for about 6 seconds each time and it wouldn't turn over and I was like mmmmm. Then I realized I had forgotten to plug the fans back in. So I did so. I start the car and the blinking up arrow on. I thought nothing of it because the car moved the 20 feet I moved it just fine. Then today I wake up and get ready for work and I get out of my 50 foot driveway and then my car goes limp...real limp. when I press on the gas it just revs pretty much. I see the black smoke faintly coming from the rear. I reverse slowly back up my driveway and get out. I pop the hood and the engine is just about shaking. I needed to go to work so I took my moms car. I'm trying to figure out if I did something without remembering to put it back that would do this? Or if it's just coincidence that this happens when I am done installing my BOV or maybe trying to start the car when it wouldn't did something? I figured someone here would know. I can't drive the car to the Auto Parts store to use the OBD-II but the CEL is on but it was on before because of my misfire I had. In the past week I installed new plugs and changed the oil and oil filter. Please help me diagnose the problem. I know it could be the PNP or maybe a transflush is needed. But I'm thinking I did something while I was working and can't think of it, please help! My dad thinks I was messing with the EGR valve and not the CBV but the CBV has a vacuum hose going to the vacuum tree and well I just knew it was it. It's right by the inlet pipe to the turbo on the drivers side. PLEASE HELP

Thanks

sounds liek a massive vacuum leak...check all vacuum and intercooler hoses...

black smoke and limping sounds like intake leak, but the no crank and flashing arrow leads to TCM codes, seems like mabe gear position sensor. if the sensor is doesn't see neurtral or park you won't crank.

also, for your rough run situation, make sure the throttle pos sensor is plugged in, i think you can get TCM codes for no throttle position because trans uses TPS for shift points. just things to check.

Well Lax was correct. Somehow I guess the intercooler elbow didn't get tighted well enough and it popped off and since it's under that little cover where the radiator fan and such are plugged in I couldn't even see it but I could feel air flow when I put my hand there and I looked and I was like WOW! The blinking arrow was blinking at 8:50am when I left for work in my mothers car but when my dad got to the house and checked out the car the arrow was no longer blinking. The clamps are tight as can be now and there is no smoke, no rought idle, no nothing. It's doing just fine now. I haven't gotten to take it on a long ride yet cause it's wet and I want to make sure it's not the PNP but it's too wet and rainy to get it up to speed around here. I don't want to take it too far and then it fall on it's face if it happens to but it seems fine. Thanks for the help, I also did the P-L 20 times just for good measure. Tomorrow I'll drive to Advance Auto Parts and read the codes and see what it had to say. Thanks for the help Lax and TekVolvo, you knew it before I did.
