A Baseball Bat, Some Astroglide, And A Heat Gun

I had the day off so I decided to tackle the the intercooler hoses today. Before I started I read that you should put the hoses in a big pot of hot (boilling) water. The hoses in question were the Stylin' silicone ones. All the hoses went on with little work except the damn throttle body hose.

No amount of boiling hot water, elbow grease, Astroglide, cursing, prying with a screwdriver worked. I was pissed!! what I needed was something to stretch the hose out some.

My son had a small aluminium bat that looked like it might be just what I needed. I heated up the hose with the heat gun, applied a good amount of astroglide and worked the large end of the bat into the opening on the hose. Once the bat was in the hose, I again used the heat gun to heat up the silicone hose and some of the bat. I let cool off for about 10 min. then I heated up the outside of the hose and the bat again.

While the hose was still hot and after I used some more astroglide, that pig jerk, tight as hell hose slid right on the throttle body, It was then that I was overcome with joy and happiness. I lit up a smoke and took a breather.

Damn, 5 hours some astroglide, a baseball bat, and heat gun, what a battle, but I got it done.

The hoses look great and the only difficult part was the throttle body hose. Now for some test drives ;)

Just thought some of you would like to know how I overcame that damn throttle body hose..

classic, make sure you restock on astroglide though.

It's a must have household item. Lots of uses for the stuff other than the most obvious and most known use :D

so why are the hose kits still being sold if the TB hose doesn't fit properly?

Good question. But throttle body hose was only off by this >>>>.<<<< much, and that much caused it to be a major pain in the butt. The other hoses were a snug fit but did not require as much effort or time to replace.

Thus far, over all, I am happy with them. They seem to be built well but the true test will be over time.

One thing to keeep in mind with thread....

THIS IS NOT A BASH / THRASH Stylin' Motors thread

I just thought it was funny when I got done installing the new hoses, and thought to my self "A Baseball Bat, Some Astroglide, And A Heat Gun". That sounds hilarious.

I want to moddify my car but with a wife two kids, bla, bla, bla and a shoe string budget I look for new products that are less expensive then all the name brand supper cool/expensive stuff.

I take my time and gather as much info as I can (most of the time) before I buy. That way I know what to expect from a given product. For me, I like every mod I have done so far to the wagon. Will it ever be a top notch super sweet ride? No, is it something I can wrench on, do some mods, have some fun, and still use the wagon for the kids and grocery's with out branking the bank? Damn straight it is!

*steps off soap box*

To be honest I think this is bad, it´s a big nono to use grease on intercooler hoses. Wait til you get some boost...

/Mike

After his soapbox rant I'll hazard a prediction that he'll never reach the boost levels you're pushing, but that's just me. ;) I used Dawn dishsoap to get mine on, and I'm running 15-17PSI sans issues. T-bolt clamp, FTW!
