Matts 850 GLT
HelloI am running a 95 855 2.4 10v. It has had little use over the last 7 years and so I am recommissioning it.I get a few moments of black smoke on start up (only when cold) and it clears and runs normal after 5 mins. I put new plugs and air filter in so what is causing the black smoke.Mileage is 70,000 so I don't think the motor is too worn.Matt
javadoc
Hmmm... Mine does that on start up, always has. Well, I just get a small puff of black but nothing more. I've been driving it like that for... 60k miles and no issues.
EvilBrick
worst thing for a car is to just sit. The seals have no lubrication from the oil and start to rot.
TEKVOLVO
i've had black smoke from injectors leaking. fuel leaking out over night will build in cylinders and burn off on start up. if it's blueish smoke, check pcv system. oil bulid up in system, or valve/turbo seals can seep over night. if you suspect injector leak down you can pull the rail and slip in a piece of cardboard between injector heads and intake. check for fuel stains in the morning. i've had good luck with injector cleaning with a BG or equivalent type service where car runs on the injector cleaner w/o fuel. also intake and throttle service can help too. Could be a leaking injector. Could be some other cold start mechanism. But black smoke almost never means your engine deteriorated persay
Matts 850 GLT
ThanksI had wondered about the injectors. How elso can I diagnose them as leaking?Matt
ziddey
I'm not sure about this but I'd imagine that you could just check pressure at the fpr and if it's down to 0, that means your injectors probably leaked them in.
