check the seal around the pump.... they get deformed and leak out fuel when full

is there a recall other than the one regarding the heatsink cover and bushings? I just had at StilTerhar in Broomfield CO this morning, and simply said, leaks gas heard there was a recall. They said "no prob' bring it in. It took an hour, and I filled it, and it started dumping again. If there is a seperate recall, what is the number?

thanks this time and every time...

if it is the fuel pump seal, is that not covered by recall?

I will do it myself if I have to pay, but I am not sure. it does say on the recall that if fuel leakage is discovered they would replace tank. It was covered in gas. WTF

they didnt replace it thats for sure

left msg for service writer up there. If it turns out to be fuel pump seal, I assume I am SOL and need to fix myself...Correct? Let me know if you can, right now its not too terribly safe to drive.

At all...

Anyone else have same prob? Could it be tank or is it probably seal? I will put on lift tonight to try and examine more closely.

Thanks to all VS guys..

edit when it leaks it leaks very heavily, down to a certain level where it stops, around 16/17 gallons. Leak is passenger side, looks like its coming out either seam or clamp on fill tube...

Do a search, we've seen leaks around the seal, at the top where wires come out of the pump, etc. Suggest you towel you it dry and clean best you can to try and see where it's leaking out from. You need to remove the access panel to do this.

Your recall number for your car is: 04V368000 Fuel tank inspection/replacement. (this is alldata’s number)

It says that you can call 1-800-458-1552 and tell them volvo’s recall number R139. You can also call Highway traffic safety administration hotline: 1-888-327-4236.

The summary says: On certain passenger vehicles, after prolonged exposure to heat, the fuel tank may seep or leak fuel at the points where the heat shield is attached. Consequence: Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.

I hope this helps you.

yes, there are two.

what is the other recall besides the fuel tank heat shield?

that is the one he just had done, so that's not it.

FYI: after I had the recall item checked (they only inspected, did not actually have to do anything) my car started leaking gas. I took the car back into Volvo and they informed me that it was leaking from the fuel tank filler neck (basically the hose that goes from the fuel door to the gas tank) at one of the seals/connections. Volvo said it was unrelated to the recall item inspection and just a coincidence that it started leaking after it went in...riiiiiiiiiiight...It only leaks when filled above 16 or 17 gallons, so I just don't fill up all the way. Volvo quoted me ~$300 to fix the leak on the filler neck.

thanks for this info. I can't figure out whether its the filler neck or the top two lines I assume are from the pump. My symptoms match yours to a T. The red paint is clearly part of the problem.

Seriously I am going to isolate the leak thursday night on the lift and go from there. The volvo service guy pretty much seemed to be talking about something that they would charge for and that won't work. I will let you all know how it turns out and thanks again for all the input. i too have that same problem. i have yet to have my car in to get the fuel tank heat shield recall performed but im pretty sure my leaks from the filler neck. it only does it if i fill the car up completely and only leaks for about 1 gallon.

Check where your wires enter the top fuel pump like Alvin said. ;)
