Morning Starts

After my car has been sitting over night, almost always if I go to start it, it takes a little longer than it normally should take. Although, I think I've found that if I turn the key to the position II on the ignition a few times, it helps -- does this point to the injectors or fuel filter? I have yet to change my fuel filter out (70k) but plan to soon. Any opinions/suggestions?

Thanks

Cold Start injector if these years have them would be my guess.

or you might have fuel leak some where, sounds like the system is slowly losing pressure since. By cylcing the key like that your running the fuel pump and priming the fuel system. See if you can get a gauge and check the pressure when you turn the car off and then again in the morning befroe you try to start it. See if it drops.

I'll see what I can do about getting the pressure readings. I can't say I've seen any fuel leaking from anywhere or any obvious sign with my gas mileage (I get 23.5mpg for some city and mostly hwy driving).

Could this effect the performance of the car at all?

well it seems it would be a seeping type leak so since the fuel pump is constantly providing pressure while the car is running it may not have any effect while it is running.

Check your oil and see if it smells like gas at all, you may have a injector that is leaky and could be leaking into the cylinder which wouldn't be noticable under the car, not to mention that gas evaporates fairly quickly comapred to the other fluids so I you may not notice any wet spots on the ground when you pull the car out of the driveway.

Could be a bad fuel pump check valve. If the valve is bad, the system de-pressurizes when sitting, so it takes longer to start in the morning. Putting the ignition into position II activates the fuel pump, which then begins pressurizing the system. This is why it starts quicker when you do this.

My best guess, but a fuel check valve is pretty cheap part. I know on the old SAABs you can replace this part w/o replacing the pump.
