Battery Overload

Yes, absolutely. I don't think you need to, but you can run a rewind or custom built one. Heck, you could even remove your A/C and run a dual 12/16 setup.

If only our cars had room for a second alt without pulling the compresser.... mmmmm.... hehe who needs power steering  ?

If you have a volt gauge hooked up fulltime, I'd let my system rest when it went below 10.5 when it hit or 11.5 constant (measured at the amp with the system running). If it never gets to those numbers, then don't worry. Any while voltage should be common, differences of ~.5V are acceptable on that much distance, and while it's not the end of the world, I always prefer to measure at / near the amp :D .

I think someone on here got a custom alt by mean green and had good luck with it, but, again, it's not necessary for you. Even if you go over the capacity of your alternator, you only notice it when you're running at maximum power on your system for long periods of time... and in that case, you just turn down the volume for a while and let it re-charge... Me I'm thinking about snagging a used alt off Ebay and having it re-wound somewhere, and then swapping it when I need the juice.

Someone mentioned something to me about running a shaft for a second alt to avoid changing the configuration and belt path. At the time it seemed like the way to go, but really I think replacing A/C is best. It's not likely that you're going to be daily driving a car that needs more than one alt. :)

AFAIK, I'm the only one here with a Mean Green. They just sent me another one a couple weeks ago, as it so happens.

I think some of the C70s had a 120A unit. The S80 2.9s definitely have them. The S80 alt's casing does not fit an 850/x70, but I've heard bad things about them and their regulators anyways. You might want to look into rewinding the C70 120A.

I checked my cars alternator at sears where I work :) and besides my pioneer avic z1 the voltage is like 13.40/50 running at 2000rpm on idle. When I turn on my Accesories, hid/highbeams, ac, rear defro, heated seats, the voltage drops in the alternators output to about 12 volts at 2 rpm. I'm not to sure if the regulator inside the alt is worn out or the wiring from the alt is worn or corroded( since the engine is turbo producing a lot of heat) Any opinions would be appreciated, since I wanted to change the stock speakers and put a seperate amp with a cap in to power them, but dont want my car to keep dying.

A friend where I work said european cars give out low output so they won't overcharge the battery like american cars, but I've tested other volvo 70 series like s v/70s and I see there cars giving more output like over 14 volts from there alternators.

if your running 3 amps with a 1.2 farad cap and under full load it wont fly I tried this set up already, also with 2 12" type r's running, have a deep cycle marine battery because nothing else would hold up and a 100 amp alt, I just watched that volt gauge drop after a few of everything being on, once I took out the 3rd amp everything went back to normal cap reading right around 12.5-13 occansionaly going below 12 if the song had alot of hard hitting bass in fast repitition. thats my view i'm currently redoing my set up and going to possible look at a bigger cap, or alt
