whatme
What options are there for carbon fiber hoods for 850's? I know about gemini but they are a bit pricey and i was wanting to see if there was any other makers. Thanks for the help.

Not sure if it followed through.Oh, and I usually "don" my flamesuit...
Guest Guest
Thing is i got in a wreck, but it only screwed up the hood, grille, and headlights. The repair place quoted me something like $1600 to fix just those three things. I looked around and saw even with that gemini i could still save about $100 buying a carbon fiber hood, used lights, and an ipd grille. Just seemed like a good idea. And dont bash me, i was planning, if i did go with carbon fiber, to paint it as soon as i had the money. Not a look thing so much as a save weight and spend the same amount of money thing. Im still just looking into it. Thing is i was never planning to drive around with an un-painted carbon fiber hood like a ricer.

There's a nationwide shortage of carbon fiber. you won't be getting a hood from anywhere unless 1) it's hiding in the back of a warehouse somewhere or 2) someone sells you a used one :)
whatme
Thats what the old thread said... How is Gemini not out of buisness when they arent selling anything? how long can the shortage last....? I dont know much about how carbon fiber is actualy made but its synthetic isnt it? So why is there a huge shortage, is there no major producers of it or what
TM850R
The shortage will last as long as Boeing is making CF aircraft.

TM850R
Sure that Boeing isnt causing a shortage?http://www.compositesworld.com/hpc/issues/2004/March/376/1There are other companies as well but for the US its mostly Boeing. The new Boeing 787 is 60% composite materials.
