Stone Chips

Hey, I have had this car a few months and when i bought it i noticed some stone chips so i had them repaired before i even drove the car. Now the 1 chip is starting to crack and its spreading, its only about 2 inches wide but i think i need a new windshield :( What is my best option and where coud i have this done? This really sucks cause i spent like 80 bucks on the dam repair job and it still screwed up. i know there are a few places that deal with auto glass but i want the best for my 850 :D Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks, Patrick

Sorry Mods, I put this in the wrong forum since this is a 96, But it applies to all year cars.

I paid 250.00 and they came to the place I work at pull my car to the side took out the old glass put in the new, cleaned it up and put a new weather strip across the top of the glass (the one that usually ripples)

Get the OEM (Pilkingtons). Nothing but the best. Make sure they do it right. After the glass is removed, make sure they touch up the scratches to bare metal that can occur otherwise you'll be wondering about leaks and rusting. Lousy shops leave this step out because by the time problems occur, warranty's already expired.

Yea ill get the oem replacement the volvo pilklington glass and ill to ask around for some good shops that do it the right way. thats not bad for 200 - 250 i thought more like 500 or more. there is a company safelite autoglass? that comes to where your car is, that cause i saw them replace a windshield in front of where i work. ill call them and ask some questions if not ill call a local shop. Thanks, Patrick

It really depends how much you want to put into your car.

The Pilkington is stronger and doesn't chip as easily. Plus, don't forget safety...

There is a lot more glass and I'll be the first to admit I'm not a glass expert. Maybe these will links below will help a little. You're right about meeting minimum standards but the Pilkington's exceed them by far.

Glass quality.

Pilkington Inspection and Process Control.

Any glass expert to chime in?

Edit: BTW, flaws in glass are places where chips can occur easier.

Check your insurance policy. If your comprehensive deductible is low enough, you might get a break on the total cost of a new windshield. Typically, at least it used to be, most companies do not apply a comp claim to your history (unless you "break" a windshield yearly or something).

Good luck,

Ah $hit. id like stock glass but then again i dont want to spend a fortune on it. also, the car has stock tint, what should i do about matching the tint and getting it put on the new windshield.
